Current account for my wife and I....

Hello,

I currently bank with Lloyds TSB and wanted to add my wife to my account to make it a joint account and then get her a personal account as weel.

After spending an hour in the bank they told us that they would not be able to offer us anything as our credit score is too bad... We know abou our bad credit that we have been sorting for the last 12 months but they still wont even give her a cash account.

Please can someone advise us of a bank that would could probably give us a joint account with debit card and personal accounts and they could just be cash accounts.

I earn about £24k a year and my wife is a housewife.

Thank you all for you help....

J

Have you considered opening a basic bank account (with someone other than Lloyds!) rather than a normal one?

The Financial Services Authority publish a leaflet about these and they may be suitable until your/your wife's credit score increases.

Several of the banks (HSBC and Natwest I think among others) look at your track record and how you handle your basic bank account with them rather than your credit score when deciding if you should be upgraded to a 'full' account later.

  • How bad is your credit rating?
Is it just late/default payments or has it gone as far as CCJ's?
I have to ask ,as the answer has a direct bearing on the OP's question, have you been involved in any way with fraudelent applications??
Normally if it is just defaults the bank would not let you make the account joint but should be able to let your wife have a cash account.
If there is any hint of fraud they will not do anything for you.
This would have been checked during the credit/bureau search when you went into the bank.
  • Hiya, thanks for the replys.

Our credit rating is very poor we beleive. We owe alot of money.
We dont have any CCJ's it is all just late and defaults.

There should also not be any fraud that we know of !!!.....

    Thanks again

  • Then I would suggest that you both obtain copies of your credit files from someone like Experian.
