question on insurance quote-help pls?

I am currently completing a form online for comparethemarket.com for contents insurance.

There is a question I dont understand, which says:

Anyone at the property had any claims in the last 5 years?*

and the explaination of the question which I dont understand

Claims losses and liabilitiesi any liability claims against anyone living in the property

I made a building insurance claim this year to my buildings insurance company, should i answer 'yes' or 'no' to this question?

Please can someone advise?

  • Its basically asking if you have had any claims in the last 5 years. So if you have had a claim on buildings this year then the answer is yes.

I would clarify this with the insurer that you are considering for your contents policy.

Many insurers will seperate claims on buildings and/or contents so your claim on the buildings may not affect your contents policy.

If you have them separately, one should not affect the other. Or even on a combined policy many insurers will only register a claim on which ever one you claimed on.

I would give them a ring to make sure but I would guess a buildings claim has little effect on your contents insurance.

    Hope this helps.
