Repair to asphalt/concrete floor

Options
Hi I have moved the toilet in our bathroom, the soil pipe was set into the floor so I had to dig a hole for pipework in the floor which is concrete with no membrane underneath, and asphalt about 25mm thick on top I have replaced the concrete but I can't seem to be able to source a suitable floor levelling compound to patch the asphalt they all seem to require a dpm be in place can anyone suggest a remedy? I need to tile the floor. Can I buy asphalt is it a DIY job whats the best solution? thanks.

  • Long shot...

some builders merchants stock small bags of macadam (tar) for patching, I'm really not sure if it would suit your purpose, might be worth checking out.

try a tin of thompsons roof sealer. beware it only sets in thin layers.
so you may have to do it twice/three times?
    Get some gorm.
  • I think the small bags of macadam (tar) for patching is mre for drives or do they stock the asphalt without the stones in it?

I need to lay it about 25mm thick and then tile on it.

A sand & cement screed mixed with SBR bond will be more than adequate for patching the asphalt.

Tip: Use SBR bond mixed with OPC in a slurry mix to use as a primer.

if youre tiling then it doesnt really matter that much what you put down first.
    normal screed, as above.
    Get some gorm.

Thanks for your reply will this not allow damp to penetrate from below and allow the tiles to become loose? I thought I needed something dampproof.

The SBR bond makes your screed water resistant.
