Maybe. But not all of it. They are relying on their grandchildren's taxes to finish the job.
The first generation to change the world in order to worsen the quality of life for their children. They have failed in the whole purpose of being alive.
you knowledge of history is obviously a lot more comprehensive than mine.
are you sure that in the last 100,000 years (broadly the scope of what one can say is mankind)
1. that each and every generation has been better off than the previous one?
2. even taking into account ice ages, plagues, wars, slavery, Ghenis Khan, Stalin, Hilter, 100 years war, crusades etc etc
3. that in all these situations the generational legacy was caused by the parents rather than things that just ' happened' to them as much as their offspring?
why do you say the purpose of being alive is to create a better world for your children ... is it written is some holy book that you believe in or enshrined in the human rights act or what?
and of course I am in awe of your ability to forecast the near future with such certainty
but an interesting article none-the-less0 -

Interesting as it it was merely in response to your comment below
Wow. You must be some genius, hot-shot internet lawyer or something.
How, by stating that by making the quality of life for your descendants worse, am I flinging poo? If we assume that the whole point of life is continuation through your offspring and that anything more than that is betterment, then I have supported my opinion. People have ceased to think about their children and to make things better for them. They, instead strive to make things better for themselves in the here and now, indulgence. They even have stickers on their cars stating "Spending my children's inheritance." And buy "inheritance" I am implying more than money left behind.
Hot-shot internet lawyer disclaimer: Much of the above is generalisation and not to be taken as a statement of qualified and universal fact.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Could have been worse (without their perseverance), it could have been Hitler, or the Russkies.
Yes but wrong generation. That generation were amazing, it is the generation that followed them that I speak of. If you are 60 today, then you were born in 1950.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I agree with much of what you say Opheo, however StevieJ is a good guy.

I though such borrowings were ineligible for mortgage support, from your link.
Quite correct, only essential items like plasma tvs, loans for btl deposits and expensive holidays would be coveredChuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
No doubt a Daily Mail front page in the making.
I think it is probably people playing the system and that is a terrible indictment on the British people. Many people get no help from the state but if they had a mortgage they could qualify for something. So, take a mortgage, claim the benefit and you are better off. They'll comfort themselves that they have paid in all their lives.

Mortgage Pusher: What do you require the loan for?
Mortgagee: A new car and a holiday, er, um, I mean home improvements.
Mortgage Pusher: Home improvements it is then. That'll be no problem, the computer says yes!
Everyone knows that the right answer to "why do you want the loan?" is "home improvements."
You reminded me of a conversation I had with my bank about 1994/5, I was about 10k short of buying a flat for cash. So I rang First Direct and asked if I could possibly have a personal loan as it actually worked out cheaper than paying for the valuation, mortgage arrangement fees and to a lesser extent the solicitors fee for dealing with a mortgage and also the fact that I would pay it off very quickly so not incurr interest payments for 20 years or so. They said no sorry not to buy a property it would have to be for a holiday or car etc.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Quite right.....
That StevieJ seems like a decent sort.
Not at all like the big mean nasty Scotsman.....:rotfl:“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Now this is just unnecessarily sarcastic. You are not the only one capable of that.
But just for fun, I shall bite.
I don't know if my knowledge of history is more comprehensive than yours. Possibly. I have stated none of the above ramblings that you numbered.- I didn't say that each generation had it better than the last, but they do try to make things better for their children.
- Er, what? You cite external influences that may impede my ability to better things for my children. I don't think I have the skill to fight off Genghis Khan with just my laptop and harsh language. Quoting these names from history is a bit counter to your own argument too, all of these people, rightly or wrongly believed ideologically that they were going to make things better, and failed. But they did not represent their entire generation. Plagues, famine and all that, well, I have no control over that either.
- No, but the boomer generation has, over the years, orchestrated policy in order to benefit themselves more so than their children, merely on the assumption that life will "automatically" be better for their descendants.
Don't be awestruck. I'm just expressing opinion.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
