Current Accounts With Bad Credit

Does any one know of any current accounts offered and accepted for people with a bad credit history. Anyone ?

  • The Co-Op do a good one, they opened one for me when I thought nobody else would. I can't find the details to hand but will look it up and get back to you.

You get a debit card and if you behave for three months it's reviewed and the account is upgraded to a regular current account.

    Furthermore, they're an ethical organisation.

    Best of luck.

Moose was your account upgraded?, or you just saying this from what you have been told.
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.
  • It's called the Cashminder Account. You can be completely honest with them about your past or present circumstances, I was, it doesn't matter.
  • Sorry, I posted without checking the forum. My account has only been open a month but fully expect it to be upgraded.

Moose53 am going to have to correct you there. You could run it well for the next 2 years and they would not upgrade it with out running a credit check/score, and you would fail if have a bad credit history.

  • My sincere apologies if I gave wrong information. I was going by what they told me. The account was recommended by consumeractiongroup.co.uk . The fact remains that it's still an option for those with bad credit, it allows direct debits and you get a debit card.
  • That's great moose, I have looked Co-Op current account up before and wasn't too sure about it. I assume you get internet banking with it too as they dont have a local branch near me.
What would be the difference between the Co-Op bank and the account and the usual high street bank and accounts.
  • ...is that the interest is only 0.1% and the card is Visa Electron (at least this is what I've got in May). You will get internet banking. And Co-op is proud that they do only 'clean' investments - I understand that they are not involved, in firearms trading for example.
Just started thinking about the rest of the bunch...
    iaye carramba!
  • Just been turned down by these. Anyone know of an account where they dont do a credit check? Dont mind doing one that clarifies I am who I say I am.

Am now applying for Bank Of Scotlands Easycash Account. See how this one goes.
  • I have a co-op cashminder account. it's ok, opened it online and it took 3 month's! (but they did appolagies for the delay!) no, they won't upgrade it regardless of how well you run it (mine is a joint account with my wife and we both have our wages paid in never tried to over draw or had a bounced direct debit etc. and had this account for about 2 years but never offered an upgrade and refused 1 when asked) an account I would recomend is the Norwich & peterborough building soc. net gold current account. I've just applied (2 days ago) online and got an email next day saying I've been accepted. don't know yet if this is for the "full" status account e.g overdraft cheque card etc. but this account does come with a cheque book which doesn't seem to happen with any other bad credit accounts. so give them a try at https://www.npbs.co.uk hope this helps! (and good luck!)
