Water heater broke?

Hi all - my water heater is not working all of a sudden - can there be any simple reason for this that i can check myself?

I'm not used to this home maintenance stuff! LOL! Don't want to tell landlady if i don't have to because she had someone look at it recently and they were odd and said it was ok but it wasn't....but i used the immersion - but now that's stopped heating the water...:(

I think it's linked to my heaters as well - and i started using them this week, so whether that's triggered something....

Not only was this person odd, but also incompetent, contact your landlord again.
  • Hi,

is it on a timer, maybe the timer has stopped, if so there may be an override switch.

Please explain what system you have to heat your water? Gas boiler, electric boiler? If it's linked to your heaters then is it a normal 'wet' central heating system with radiators?
Make/model of the boiler would help.

  • MegaFlo High Efficency, HeatRae Sada....? LOL! Electric....

and no i haven't got it sorted yet! ahem...

I have called a plumber but he hasn't got back to me and there have been numerous other issue i've been dealing with...will try calling another one tomorrow but if ayone has any ideas on what i might need to look at in the boiler cupboard i'm all ears! lol! Thanks! :-)
  • Ok, it's not somethink you should work on as it's a un vented cylinder, Get a plumber and make sure he shows his card with his g3 on there, This says he is trained to work on un vented cylinders.
  • Thanks Bambibashercol!

Don't know what an unvented cylinder is....but no doubt about to learn! LOL!

Could the guy who came previously have done something, it stopped working about 2 days after he left....he fixed the thing so that i could use the economy button and not the immersion button....but it only lasted two days before both buttons are useless...lol! They switch on and the light comes on but the water doesn't heat....

    thanks for your time! :-)
  • well it could be the control/timer needs replacing,Maybe the air gap needs recharging in the cylinder, There's checks that need doing with a multimeter on the electrical side. The thing is though when ever working on a unvented cylinder all the safety controls need checking, This should be done once a year. Iwould advise your landlord this and get it sorted out.
  • thanks Bambibashercol!!

In the meantime is the unit safe as long as i leave well alone and switched off?

    thanks again! :-)
