Youngest child left school

It was explained to me that the claim continues until the 31 August if the young person is/or intends to continue onto higher education but the claim stops once the decision is made to move into the workplace. therefore if your teen plans to go to Uni but decides not to in August then the claim would cease then but if they never intended to go on in education then the claim stops on the last day of education.0

My daughter was eighteen in May last year, and as I posted earlier in the thread, I received tax credits until 31st August. I think it is possible for you to receive tax credits up to the age of 19 if your child is in full time further education.0

I think penuckle is probably right - it depends whether they leave education after college or intend to go on to HE.
Did your dd plan to carry on when you informed tax credits?0 -

Is your daughter claiming JSA because this would stop both CB and CTC?0 -
So regardless of whether the school leaver actually intends to remain in eductaion OR NOT , they are still better to say that they DO intend to ...... that way tax credits are paid up until 31st Aug as oppossed to the last day of term in june ?0

My daughter did not intend to go away to university - she had not applied anywhere. Instead, she wanted to find a job and study with the Open University. I informed tax credits of this and they said that she was classed as being in full time education until 31st August, but that if she found employment before then, I had to inform them. Obviously she was unable to claim JSA as I was still receiving CTC and CB.
My daughter claimed JSA in September and October, but was fortunate enough to find work by the end of October.0 -
What on earth leads you to conclude I expect anything of the sort?
Your post where you state the hours you work, the hourly rate, the fact your ex-husband pays the mortgage and you're bleating on about your ADULT daughter not having an income so you don't have to keep aflot. So yes, I was perfectly right about you getting plenty to live on and a free house and expecting us to pay you to support your adult kids through CHILD benefit and tax credits.0 -

in answer to the OP question...................if the child is leaving school (as in year 11 just finished GCSE's) going into college or sixth form or not continuing into FTE, regardless of whether they are staying on or not continuing with education they will be paid up until 31st Aug.
If the child is in full time non advanced education (A levels, Btec's etc) and leaves or the course finishes then you will be paid upto the date the child was last in college/sixth form, if they are going to university they are paid up until 31st August.
so the difference is basically whether they are school leavers or leaving college/sixth form
So it appears you were given the correct information as your daughter was not a school leaver she was actually leaving college and not continuing into Higher Education (going to uni) therefore would only be paid up to the date she was last in college.
Hope that clears up any confusion.0 -
I have no idea so may be talking rubbish but has the date they turn 18 got anything to do with the cut off date?
Or is it whether or not they plan to continue their education?
once over 18 ctc end the day they leave college(not the term end date but the actual date),child benefit continues until the last monday in august(unless they leave college before the end of the first week in may).
However child benefit can be extended by 3 months if they sign on with connexions
As for wtc i assume the same applies as for ctc.0
