Tree Removal

Right i've been quoted around £900 for the following:

1. Pruning 4 conifers from 80ft to 40ft
2. Chopping down 2 conifers which are around 40ft and removal of roots
3. Pruning one side of a 40ft tree.

The price also included chopping up the wood for logs and removal of anything I didn't want.

Does this sound reasonable? I've never had anything like this done before.

  • Probably worth getting a couple of quotes. We had a quote for £1200 to remove a massive scotts pine tree which needed tree climber etc to bring it down in sections but managed to get it done for £700 by someone else.

I would also add that taking 40' off conifers is a little more than 'pruning'

We had 2 large laylandi felled and removed for £450 last year. Was an awkward job, as everything had to come through house, since we have no rear access. Roots were left mind, but poisoned, reckoned they'd need a mini digger to get them out. Not really an option with no access.
  • It depends a lot on the access, but that sounds about on a par with what my neighbour paid recently. But, as has been previously mentioned, do get 2 or 3 quotes, and make sure the company is insured - 40 foot of wood landing on your roof will make a bit of a mess !

When my neighbour was having his done, they had to use scaffolding to get up to it ( no access for a cherry picker or any heavy machinery ). I was chatting to one of the blokes, he said they hate doing conifers as they're so awkward - they can't climb in amongst the branches like they can with other trees, they have to work from the outside in. But I must admit I was impressed with how accurately they managed to make the trees fall, in what was a very confined space :-)
