Home/contents insurance qs

Sorry if this has been answered before but would appreciate some advice.
My policy for both is due for renewal at the end of this month. Normally i do a quick internet search on something like gocompare, make sure that it covers me for same as last years policy and go with the best figure. Do i need to be looking any further than that?

Also i have a few pieces of my mothers jewelery which i think is prob worth between £500-1000, do i need to add this under an extra section to cover it??

any tips before i continue sounding like a very silly woman who doesnt know much lol!

  • Comparison sites won't cover all insurers. Aviva and direct line do not use them and some insurers are only available via a broker. I would do 4 quotes, a comparison site, Aviva, direct line and ring your local broker. That should just about cover all bases!

With regards to the jewellery as it's below £1500 per item with most insurers the items will not need to be specified. Be sure to check the insurers single article item limit to be on the safe side. To cover the items outside make sure you have an amount of unspecied items away from the home.

    Hope this helps

  • thank you for replying. Where would i find out what my local broker is? Sorry as i said i am a bit dappy when it comes to this. Although i own my own house i;ve not really put much thought into getting the best out of insurers in the past :)
  • Easiest way to find your local insurance broker is probably through yell.com. You could also put a search in google for insurance broker followed by the town you live in, this will bring a local search.
