Solar panels, a thought.

All the info and advice about solar panels is about siting them on a south facing roof.

Can they not be sited on a south facing wall or fence instead if there is no obstructions to the sun?

Just a thought as satellite dishes are not allowed on the walls of the houses where my sister lives so they are all on the ground in the gardens and the leaseholders are not happy but there is nothing they can do.

You can't site them on a wall or fence at all, because placed vertically like that they would not get much direct sunlight.
They have to be at an angle (hence the usual roof mounting) or if at ground level they can be placed facing south at around 45 degrees on supporting frames.
