Car insurance pay as you drive

does anyone know if you can buy car insurance on a drive/pay by the day basis ,i need to see if this is available for my daughter who has been on my insurance for the last year and is at uni and only drives when she comes home and when we go and see her ,the renewal has gone up too much to warrant the xtra layout for just 6 or 7 times she has a go , please help many thanks :)

    ISTR the main provider which did this has now stopped providing this service. If she only drives as infrequently as you say, I would suggest renting a car for those occasions or taking the train instead (booking well in advance and splitting tickets etc as described elsewhere in these forums). Also, rather than just accepting the renewal, try and get some new quotes, see http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insurance?dd for a guide. Add parents as named drivers to her policy, even if they'll never drive as this can bring down the cost. But TBH with the hassle of keeping the car, and getting a jump starter if only used 7 times a year, and risk of criminal damage when parked - I'd again go down the rental route.

    Rental may not be an option as many car hire companies have age restrictions.

    Can't you just use someone like dayinsure.com the few times she needs to drive it?
