European Car Insurance

My boyfriends family have a property in France and I sold them my old car for them to take across for a few months in the summer, to save on a hire car.The new owner, my father in law, has got insurance to drive the car in the UK with European cover and took the car over a few weeks ago.
However, me and my boyfriend want to go to france and use the car but I seem to be having difficultly in finding some temporary insurance cover. A lot of policies seem to say that it is necessary for the journey to begin and end in the UK.
Does anyone have any idea how to find some insurance for this vehicle in Europe? Im finding it difficult!
