Help for prizes

Options
Hi,

I am organising a charity event in Liverpool in october, in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Its the 3rd Ball we have organised, and part of the event consists of Raffles and Prize draws to raise money. I usually write letters and emails to restaurants, football clubs, businesses etc asking for prizes. On the previous years we have managed to acquire some good prizes. This year however I am really struggling-I have sent 50 letters and countless emails, and have had 2 prizes. I have 6 weeks to go and am starting to worry. Anybody got any tips on acquiring prizes? Do you think face to face canvassing might work to shops etc?

Any advice would be most appreciated!

I guess its a measure of tough times - I would try some F2F visits - be polite but not pushy. Try calling companies too. Have you also thought about contacting the local paper, perhaps they could do an article about the ball and that you are looking for prizes etc. Perhaps you could also offer some local businesses a ticket or two if they donate a suitable prize? Make sure that the buisnesses/people you contact know the type of people who will be attending the ball and that their company will get some form of advertising benefit from donating gifts/prizes. Another avenue perhaps is contacting a local radio station and see if you can get a little slot to tell the listeners about the ball and that you are looking for prizes?

    Best of luck

  • Don't loose faith, i had some success a few months ago when I organised the prizes for a charity quiz night. I mainly sent emails & also filled in the contact us forms on websites. Some of the national companies I had success with were Tesco, Odeon cinemas, Wagamama's. Also try small independent shops, restaurants, supermarkets and theme parks. Good Luck.
  • We did a charity raffle earlier in the year and found Tesco, Faboulous Bakin Boys, and local restaurants very helpful and Yorkshire Tea were very helpful towards our tea stall........ we also lost heart so many companies said they couldn't help us due to our charity........ Cadburys, Mars and Coke are no longer allowed to support charitys that involve children so they tend to support animal charities, and our local bowling alley and cinema would only give us money off coupons as they said they couldn't afford it this year.

Don't give up, keep up the good work.

As you're based in Liverpool it may be worth contacting Everton Football Club's charity department. They are very helpful.

I know how hard it is trying to get prizes.

    Good Luck.
