I use Vodafone to do this. Most around Rs9 per min (VERY roughly).
Depending on network make sure it works in the areas you are travelling to. It is not a Nationwide single service like in the UK, going from area to area in India usually counts as roaming. This can mean top-ups can be an issue.
Obviously you need an unlocked phone. Where exactly are you going?0 -
Thanks Bob,
It will only be for Delhi.
Can I buy these at any phone shop?

The phone was unlocked (CPW) when I bought it in July, I have 02 in at the moment but I have barely used the phone since then!
I don't know if phone's become locked if you have the sim in for any length of time :S0 -

Yep, take a photocopy of your passport and visa plus a couple of passport photos and a business card from your hotel (plus original passport). If you are only in Delhi you'll have lots of options but about Rs9 per min should be the max.
Good luck, especially if you've never been to India before!0 -
Gosh Bob, that seems a lot of trouble just for a sim
Hey ho, for Rs9 a min I don't mind

The British taught the Indians about bureaucracy but they made it in to an art form. Plus they are paranoid about (them from over the border)!!! using mobiles for various 'unsavoury practices'.
