Hello all you lovely people.
I am seriously losing the plot. I had my Laptop stolen from me a few months back, it was a 7 year old Compaq, but I loved it and am lost without it.
Wanted to buy a new one ever since, but I can't make sense of the varieties on offer. All I want it to do is let me surf the web, e-mail and write stuff using word. Can't afford alot as I'm about to lose my job, but I need it to find a new one, hows that for irony.
I don't understand any of the rest of it and it's completely muddled me up so badly I can't make a decision.
A friend recommended this, but as I'd never heard of Novatech I wasn't sure. Does it seem like a good deal?
Sorry I don't know how to make it into a link!

This is what it has though. Any help REALLY greatly apprecaited.

If money is tight, you could always buy a second hand one, or a desktop for half the price. Doubt you'll be able to get word included for that sort of price, but you could always use openoffice instead.
If i wanted a new laptop nowadays., I'd try and get one with a DVD rewriter, because they are expensive or near impossible to retrofit. Cardbus express cards are also rare at the moment. If you add XP, office, wireless adapter, it bumps the price up to about £560, which isn't cheap.
This comes with wireless and XP for £349, bit smaller screen though.

I am also looking for a Laptop (around £400), i have been looking for a few weeks and keep my eye on the Grabbit board for laptops.
I live near Novatech in Portsmouth and have bought a few smaller items from them and had no problems.
The model you mention from Novatech seems OK, although for the money i would expect a little higher spec such as the RAM.
One that has just interested me is from PC World -

I Check the websites for Currys, Dixons, PC world, staples, Dell, Comet.
Its also worth a search on Pricerunner.co.uk to see what spec you should expect for your money.
Hope this helps.0 -

CONFUSED more!
This link takes me to a Laptop that costs £416, I don't want to pay more then £350. Thanksfor tryign to help though.0 -
you have to knock the warranty down to the cheapest option.
It says this on the page you linked to..
Follow the link above directly to the Inspiron 1300 or alternatively go to the Dell UK E-Value search page, enter the e value code 305 in the first box, in the second box enter the evalue code N09135.
Once you arrive at the Inspiron 1300 configuration page, change the support option to '90-Day Collect and Return service' and proceed through checkout.
Desktop for £170..

Thank you very very much.
I think I shall probably just go for it, someone who understand these things just saying its ok is good enough for mr.
I don't understand the numbers well but it was the highest I've seen for the sort of money, seemed a good make and I like the fact I can see it before I buy.
Will go round in circles forever if I don't just plunge in. Its so hard to keep up with everthing now, it all gives me a headache. ;o)
