Domestic Standard & Restricted Hours B

Hi all,

Hope someone can help me with my electric bills.

I am on the tarrif Domestic Standard & Restricted Hours B with Scottish Hydro. Have been for 5 years ever since we moved into this house. I have been paying £166 per month for the past year for my electric which is alot of money. Does anyone know if there are better deals or tarrifs on the go . ( I have tried price comparrison sites but cant understand them)

My last winter statement breaks down like this - Standard 2730 units at 11.66p, Off peak 9000 units at 9.00p. ( No estimates actual readings)

The statement was from 09 Oct 2009 to 08 April 2010. I should also tell you that I live just north of Aberdeen so it can be pretty cold in winter so Economy 7 probably wont be good enough.

Thanks

Mac

  • That's a new one on me, sounds like a E7 or E10 thing....though it could be Total Control.

I dont work for Hydro, but do work in your area some days, so have seen some wierd and wonderfull meter setups, and some horrible bills! Sounds like you have some kind of metering that will make it difficult to swap suppliers; or the metering is incorrect type for the heating you have.

Your billing sounds odd, £166 a month sounds like your heating a mansion! I would have thought the low rate was a lot less than 9p per unit, and the standard units would cost more than they do.

How many meters do you have, one or two? Also how is the property heated, might help to get this info before making any wild guess. Any other high consumption equipment in use..jakuzi/mig welder/workshops/lamps for exotic plants?

Restricted hours tariffs supplied by Scottish Hydro are usually one of the preserved tariffs.
(i.e the existing supplier has an obligation to support it for their existing premises supplied on that tariff)

I think you will have difficulty in getting any other supplier to accept you on this type of tariff, and where attempts to do so are made, they invariably end in tears if a straight refusal isn't given initially.

For that reason, you won't find the restricted hours tariff on comparison sites.
