are there post-grad demonstrators/helpers on your course? i sometimes get people asking for help and advice and find it easier to ask a post-grad than lecturer and often they're more than pleased to help and will probably have completed the same degree recently. they might be able to give you pointers about what is expected of you.0 -
cheers for the advice!0

I have also just started as a mature student and my mind is in a whirl!!
You have my sympathy Tallulah I know just how you feel, it is the essay writing and referencing that is worrying me the most and writing in the "academic style" again. I mentioned this to one of my tutors and she told me the uni has a support officer that will help with all this and even read through essays and make suggestions if you email her with them in plenty of time.
What course are you studying Tallulah? maybe we can help each other through this first few months!0 -
Hi savvysass
I suposse it will be ok once i get my head around things, but the min everything seems so foreign to me. I know what you mean about the essaay writing and the referencing being major hurdles. Im doing Sociology and Criminology...0 -

Yep i agree. Me and the other postgrads around here are considered pretty approachable by the undergrads (probably helps that they've seen us drunk!)0 -
Your one of the lucky ones!! Count your blessings that you find uni so easy! Some of use work really hard to have stable grades and work even harder to try and get out of debt! I'm trying to do all of these!!0

It depends on the subject really.
I'm studying engineering atm and am currently on my industrial placement year (3rd year). I havent found it easy, I've found it to be very hard work so far. However, comparing engineering to say, media studies is a completely different ball game. We had 30hr's of lectures each week, and were expected to put in 2hr's of home study for every hour of lecture. Compare that to a friend of mine doing English/Media and its completely different, with around 5hr's of lectures and the rest being spent 'reading'. I'm not being rude, but to achieve a 1st in engineering, etc is probably a lot more difficult than doing the same in media studies/film studies.

Of course it is. Employers know this. Why do you think most of the English/Media graduates end up working in dead end admin jobs?
