replace with louvre door?

British gas made us take off the door to the understairs cupboard where our warm air heating unit is so that the cupboard becomes part of the kitchen. It is now no longer classed as a cupboard

This has all to do with ensuring that there is adequate ventilation.

So now we have a cupboard with no door:eek: in the kitchen.
It doesn't look nice as that cupboard holds the ironing board, hoover, etc and because it is opposite the window it isn't even in shadow.

If a pair of ranch style half louvre doors were fitted would this be OK or would British Gas consider this made the cupboard a cupboard again?

This appears to be the essence of the request, not to deny you a cupboard.

What you need to do is ask the engineer how much ventilation is considered adequate and so how much of an opening is required to allow such ventilation.
