Copper Beech hedge

I want to plant a hedge to screen a building in my garden . I think I've narrowed it down to deciding that I'd like copper beech. I also need some more laurels to screen off the road. Does anyone have know of any good online suppliers that they'd recomend? I've bought online plants before and had some of variable quality so thought I'd ask if anyone has bought hedging online before and has recommendations or suppliers they'd aviod.

best to give them a call, as they will talk you through what will grow in your soil/area/exposure etc.

I've always found that buying locally is usually cheaper than the net.

I know garden centres are expensive, but if you can find a local farm or similar that sell plants you'll save yourself alot of money.

Any Idea where I may find any farms etc selling hedging? Do they tend to advertise anywhere? I'm in East Yorkshire and only really know of local garden centres who seem very expensive. Not sure where to look to find toher places selling plants if you see what I mean. Thanks

most small nurseries do not generally have the funds available to advertise widely. I would advise you to get bare root Beech as imo better value and tend to 'get away' faster.They are available around Dec- Feb

A quick goggle brought up Whin Hill nurseries in Driffield who do bare root. This is not a personal recommendation though as do not know them

Worth looking in yell.com or on in your yellow pages for Plant Nurseries and phoning some to see if they do bare root. If so what height and price and when.

They may have different heights available for Beech. If they do hedging bare root they will usually have some container grown laurel too, again at different heights.

bare rooted plants will be cheeper and easier to plant.thats if your area is prepared all ready...but also at this time of year it is the time to take cuttings both the beech and laurel are fairly easy to do..look up on internet of how you do them.. take the laurel cuttings from your excisting shrubs,and look around for some one thats got a copper beech and ask to take cuttings from them..

This time last year i bought about 5o assorted hedging plants, they were rootless, like little sticks. All have started to grow well, a couple are about 5', most between 2'/3'.
Last week my neighbour started an extension and 13 of them have had to be dug up and i've got them in containers, so hope they'll be ok.
