Swinton 30 pounds cashback scam?
geckofabulous
On the offer they said they would send a unique 11 digit reference no with a telephone no which to ring 24 hours a day.
No such 11 digit no or telephone no has been emailed to me.
And they say you have 30 days in which to claim it.
Are they simply hoping we'll forget, when they don't send the email they promised?

With swintons no amount of cashback is worth the bother. Have a search on MSE and on the net, then go elsewhere.0

Did you enter the promo code?
On the advert for the cashback there is a code to enter.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
I've used Swintons cashback both online with the promo code, and through my local office, where they have sorted it all out for me.
No hassle, cashback everytime with no problems, and a good price as well.
Don't know why Quentin always badmouths them, reading through MSE, there are others with bad experiences, but they certainly don't come up as much as some others insurers.
Like I say. I've used them for years, for car, house, business, and commercial insurance and always had a good deal, and good service.0 -

You have been lucky.
You often see this phrase from others when answering insurance queries:Try a local broker (not swintons).......
Apart from the unhappy people on MSE, some more independent reviews:

So, one disgruntled phrase on MSE, and a similar score to Adrian Flux.
1.3/5 for Swintons. 2/5 for Adrian Flux.0 -
Don't be fooled by their statistics (the minimum rating is 1.0!).
Read what sort of service the reviewers experienced.
(And that "not swintons" phrase has appeared on MSE many times from different posters when suggesting "use a broker" to solve a particular problem!)0 -
I have to say our experience with Swinton was great. They were really helpful and made what could have been a nightmare (having no car while it was in a garage being repaired) bearable.
Far better than Swiftcover who we had insurnace for aniother vehicle with - they were a nightmare! As soon as the policy expired we put the 2nd car with Swinton even though they were more expensive.
Would definielty recommend Swinton ... and wouldn't touch Swift again with a bargepole!0 -

thanks,i might give them a go! We have had to claim with swiftcover as we had a crash just before xmas, and they have just done nothing but mess us around from the word go. Possibly the worst insurance company ever! I cant say i have ever heard a bad word about swinton.

This is some time after the last post but I'd like to add my expreiences to this thread.
My local branch ( Ilkeston, Berbys ) gave me hassle commencing approx 10 days after inception with them last year. Despite providing NCD proof they threatened to cancel my policy, weren't very polite and at no time did they even lean towards an apology.
Changed vehicles with them ( approx £65 additional premium plus £25 admin fee for the privilege of half a tree's worth of paper ).
Policy due for renewal in 3 days. Started receiving letters from my local branch asking them to contact them to clarify policy dfetails before they could issue a renewal!! They have my tel no - they used it to call me back when I changed my car over at Xmas! Duidnt rush to call as I'd seen what they couldn't do for me when I tried the comparison sites!!
Meantime, their head office sent a renewal notice thru 5 days ago!! I always thought 4 weeks notice of renewal premium was the requirement. The figure they quote is horrendous. Rang local branch today as I now discovered they've taken abn extra DD payment. This is Swinton'as auto renewal deposit scam designed to retain your money and your custom?! Was spoken to quite rudely - apperently details of this were available when I took the internet quote out nearly 12 months ago! They've duplicated copies of my policy, did the same when I changed car and with my renewal. I have a huge stack of paper from them with no mention anywhere of this extra dd deduction!
Told them the figure of the best quote I'd received ( Tesco ). After offering to look around for me - they've stuck with the original quote from existing insurer - some £400 more than Tesco, but have gone to great lengths to tell me about the cashback scam - sory - scheme. Once Ive juggled the figures they've managed to beat Tesco by a fiver but ignored the fact that Tesco includes breakdown cover....
On balance - I'm trying to remain objective here but I find this whole cashback thing very dubious. I'm an existing customer, I haven't defaulted on any of my DD payments. The fact that they weren't willing to shop around - after all a cheaper but still uncompetative policy plus some cashback would've sounded a little enticing. A fiver and the promise of £415 back??!!! I'm sorry Quentin but Im suspicious.
I'm also suspicious cos of the unhand direct debit deposit scam. And it is a scam. When I changed vehicle I enquired about settling my policy up outright - no mention of this extra 'deposit' - when it came to talking out of settling up, the the staff member at my local branch WHO PHONED ME BACK was politeness personified!!!
I'm going to have to venture off to local branch at some inconvience before the weekend to make sure my policy isn't renewed and that I get my NCD proof. I feel that the whole renewal
I've asked my bank to refund the extra DD payment but they're investigating ( HSBC... ) - so if they don't play ball I've got some work ahead of me to get my 40 quid back. No doubt someone will jump at the chance regarding cancelling DD's - of course I'd planned to do this before Sunday - had i known re extra amiount I would've done this 4 weeks ago.
There are always folk who will jump at the chance to tell all of a bad service experience and those who will, quite rightly, defend the company involved if they've had nothing but good service from them. I haven't had a nightmare time with Swinton BUT the lengths they go to to retain business is not IMHO at all professional - I was with MORETHAN for some years - so how is it that someone 3 conitinents away, with a questionable grasp of english be far far more polite and helpful than someone with the same STD code as myself??
No doubt there are threads detailing good and bad regarding Tesco insurance!!!0
