do all debts show up on a credit check?

im applying for a mortgage so i decided to do a credit check on all 3 the banks use. i have 4 creditors and the one with the most money owed did not show up. im very grateful for that the others did and are small amounts

i just wondered why my huge debt did not show up i have had the card 30 years and paid it off a few times now its back up

so do some debts not show up on any credit checks? and will it affect my chances of getting a mortgage?
i dnt want it to show up lol i can afford the repayments
if banks check same ones i did would it show to them?
also i had a letter saying the card services are putting up their interest rates to 29% can they do that? and how much more would i pay a month?

    What are your four "debts"?

Some very old accounts don't appear on your credit file as when you opened it there won't have been a clause in the agreement, at the time, wherein you granted permission for them to share your data with credit reference agencies.

    Ah OK.

Well I suppose it's a good thing if your "old" account is also the one you owe the most money on :o But it is common for these very old accounts not to appear given that you signed the agreement before Credit Reference Agencies recorded data in the way they do now - so for them to report it would be a breach of data protection - you've never signed anything to say they can.

You can call them to ask about this and request they start reporting if you wish, it's your call

  • so does that mean when the bank does a check on me as im applying for a mortgage, i have one in principle, it would not be uncovered? if it was, would it make a difference? i can pay the debts.

If you can't see something on your credit file, the bank don't see it when they perform a credit check. Simple as that.

When you say "uncovered" I think this might be over thinking to a certain extent. The bank do a credit check to "uncover" your debts, so if it doesn't show on that they don't know about it.

    Clear sailing

My Experian file iis a lot better than my Equifax file. The Experian file does not have as many defaults as the Equifax one. So, everything is not showing on there.
  • credit cards older than year 2000 will never show up on a credit check so even if you still use it and default say late payment or missed payment it still wont show up on any c check
