                    Good morning all...
Last night, went to turn the light on in the bath room.
No light
Checked the fuse box and the RCD had tripped on the new RCB box we had installed 4 years 2 months ag or so and the circuit had tripped even though no lights were switched on at the time.
Switching the trip back on was not problematic, ie it went to the on position with out immediately tripping...
But no lights were work on that ring.
Removed all light bulbs and replaced a coupke with new ones but still no light.
So I guess the problem is more fundamental, any suggestions?

may be rodent chewing - need to trace the circuit along its path I'm afraid. Good Luck.0

            RCD itself may have failed?
PS: lighting circuits are not on a ring main (that is only used for power sockets), so if there is a fault further back down the circuit, you lose all the lights. No free lunch, and no free laptop

So are you meaning that if the first room light has a fault, all the others will fail, or if one light fails, do they al stop working?
The circuit itself has four lights, bathroom, toilet, spare bedroom and main bedroom.
We are in a second floor mid 60's council flat (ex) so rodents are less likely to be an issue but not plausible...
There is one more floor above us...Recently there was a water problem coming from upstairs (6-8 weeks ago?) but that did not casue any problems then.
Guess I need to call a sparkie
Again thanks for your help

Big clue there....Recently there was a water problem coming from upstairs (6-8 weeks ago?) but that did not casue any problems then.
Yep. Because the problem has to be properly traced and you've mentioned the leak.Guess I need to call a sparkie
Best of luck.

Lighting circuits should be ring circuits. Most houses have separate rings for each floor, or, in some cases front & back.
The ring is normally formed through the ceiling roses. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Lighting circuits are radial circuits, not ring circuits!
They can be loop-in or junction box wired. No free lunch, and no free laptop

What a complete load of tosh !
Lighting circuits have NEVER been wired as ring circuits, they are always radial. How long have you been a sparks ? me ive been a sparks 20 years and have never seen let alone wired lights on a ring.
If you dont know what you are on about with electrics then please dont post. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0
