you solve one problem then another appears!! Ok, so I now know how to edit my dvd'd I transferred from vhs some time ago. new problem is that I no longer have a dvd recorder but I do have a tv card in my pc . I would like to connect video to pc so I can capture the recording but I dont know how to connect VCR/ Is it just a matter of using an aerial lead between the video and the pc? or is it more complicated than this. The old stuff will more than likely be analog but eh newer stuff will be digital but I dont know if this makes a diffeence or not? thanks

Your video ouput will probably be s-video,you can get cables that convert this to scart or rca (i think) and then to the vhs.
You also need to connct your sound output to the vhs as well so need a cable for this..
Try your local 'open all hours' type shop as they usualy have many type of video copier cable kits0 -
Be careful with the s-video as some scarts aren't s-video compatible. Will depend on your video recorder.0

why not buy a DVD r/w drive, £25.., you'll get better quality results.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

What are you trying to achieve, transfer from video to PC, PC to DVD, or PC back to video.
What input's/outputs do you have on the TV card?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Why not just use your cd/dvd burning program to burn a dvd or SVCD?0 -
sorry i will try to explain better. I am trying to hook up my vhs player to my pc so i can play an old vhs tape and record it to my hard drive.
my pc has a tv tuner which i have used to watch tv so i know that works and i have various video editing software such as pinnacle studio 9 plus others which came pre loaded.
vhs player has a scart connection at the back and an aerial in and an aerial out socket thats all.
according to pc literature i should use the composite video in socket (a yellow one) to do this somehow but it doesnt say how. My pc also has a s video connection. The pc also has firewire which I use to capture from my camcorder.0 -

Its the capturing of the vhs tape that i cant seem to do. once its on my hard drive its not a problem0 -
Right very easy to do first get yourself a scart to phono adaptor make sure this out or switchable take one lead from the yellow connection composite out into the tv card. Also take the sound outputs from video into soundcard or sound in on tv card Bring up your software and slect what input you want and you should get pics. Now if you tv card does not have video in you could do it the old way via rf out into the tv card then tune in the video but quality won't be as good as composite0

Thank you- thats excatly what I need to do. I worked it out that I need to go to maplins to buy this scart to phono converter then should be sorted as I already have the correct leads at home0
