Nuisance calls from 02079807360 after using comparison sites

Why do comparison sites insist on you putting in your phone number? You cannot get a quote on some sites without.
Read on ;

I was called at 21.45 on 01.09 and when answered just heard office chatter in the background so hung up. The 1471 gave the number as 02079807360.
Next day we had 2 more calls, so I called them, to hear an answerphone message from "The Claim guys". (LeadX Ltd)

When I googled the number it came up as having a long history of nuisance calls trying sell "debt solutions" by cold-calling. The root cause seems to be insurance comparison sites selling your number on to these people (or them stealing it somehow?).

My wife had been on GoCompare and HAD to give a landline phone number or it would not give a car quote. This was the only source, as I have an old mobile phone number that i use on the internet as contact number to avoid this.
We are on TPS so I have made a formal complaint - but apparantly these guys dont take much notice of that.
Simple advice - if you have to fill in a telephone number on a price comparison site then give the number of the company that wants to pester you with cold calls instead of your own.
It should not affect you getting a quote from the comparison site.

Always put 0207 980 7360 as your home phone number. That way they will be paying good money to buy their own phone number as a sales lead.
Lets start a campaign - tell everyone you know to put the cold-callers number in as their phone number when using internet comparison sites.

My irritation was minor - there are others out there pestered day and night by these clowns - I bet there are some real harrowing stories out there.

Fight the fight !!!

    I agree.

I always put in a made up phone number on comparison sites, for the reasons you have stated.

There are some people that think that comparison sites sell on their information to various, including Credit Reference Agencies. I would therefore suggest that people should research how the comparison site is going to use their information and click on any opt outs on the sites, if they wish to use them.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

    works everytime!

We sould not have to do this though and these cowboys are damaging the reputation of these comparison websites - if there's anyone on here from GoCompare - I suggest you sort it out...

The claims guys are scam merchants. I had a phone call from them trying to persaude me that my insurance was mis-sold despite the fact I am an IFA. There are plenty of threads on them as to how bad they are. The sooner they are shut down the better.

You should report them to the MoJ for nuisance calls.

I hope you played along with them - it would have been entertaining.

I did to a point but had to give up. The woman didnt seem to know what an IFA was. When I said that I sold myself my insurance she was still adamant that I was mis-sold and that I could complain.

Even when I said to her that I would have to complain to myself and if I decided to uphold the complaint to myself I would have to pay myself the redress. She still didnt get it. It stopped being fun then as she clearly didnt know what she was talking about.

Then you were clearly mis-sold, because it left you without effective means of obtaining redress. You should complain to the insurance company about letting you make the purchase from yourself. The helpful claims company will charge only £300 for helping you to do all of the complicated legal work involved so that you get all of the money you're properly entitled to get.
