Marmaris money saving

We are off to Marmaris in Turkey this week on a AI basis, not our first choice of destination but budget friendly!

Any thing we must do whilst there that doesn't cost a lot?

Look on the Marmaris forum on Trip Advisor.
Everything you'll need and more is there.

Top tip: Don't get in conversation with carpet sellers unless you are serious about buying one!

I've been to Marmaris twice, once about 15 years ago before the resort became a bit too 'club 18-30' and again briefly four years ago when i stopped there for the day while travelling around Turkey.

There isn't really anything worth doing there, there are a few markets and shops where you can haggle for knock-off designer goods. If you're AI i'd suggest staying in your hotel for most of the time you're there unless you get an opportunity to go on a day out somewhere outside of the resort.

In the resort itself you'll have the opportunity for water sports if that's your thing, otherwise it's a bit 'Brit's abroad' and not much if anything to do culturally. Just enjoy the relaxing break and take advantage of your AI hotel. Hope you have fun and enjoy the weather. :)
  • Grab a few crates of beer, a few packets of Durex (if you need them) and chill by the pool during the day and rock the place at night.

Its ok, don't thank me, i know :D

Not so much must do's but here are some of the things we like to do when we are in Marmaris - the day long boat trip (fab scenery, visit coves and beaches) with lunch included and if you haggle you can get drinks included in the price too (never paid more than a tenner each), the day long jeep ride (we saw waterfalls, beaches, high terrain so you could look down on Marmaris) - again lunch included but buy your own drinks (remember to take bottled water too) and around a tenner and you must have a turkish bath - I really wasn't looking forward to this but at a fiver each took a chance - had half hour in sauna, an hour long massage and hour in the pool followed by a facial - absolutely fabulous! Have a great time - we're going to Bodrum next month and back to Marmaris in May - sooooooo excited!

Many thanks for the detailed reply, we are AI luckily! Not really the 'brits abroad' kinda folk but sure we be fine, will be nice just to get some sunshine! Not really into watersports, did parasailing a few years back and was virtually in tears screaming to come back down, still not sure why I agreed as a) hate water b) hate heights.....!! Damn mudslides!!! :rotfl:
