It is not viable for her to keep the dog it was only supposed to be temporary for a few weeks! This has been months now!
.
Well it would be cheaper for her to give the PDSA £84 then keep feeding, worming & vaccinating it wouldn't it?
If its a danger to the children then £84 is a small price to pay....
How much does it cost to feed a month?
If she is "stuck with it" another 3 months won't that cost her £84?0 -
They won't take her because she has staff in her, not because she hasn't been spayed. No amount of money I spend on this is going to alter the fact she has staff in her which I'm being told by rescues is the reason they won't take her. I'm not going to spend £84 on a dog that isn't mine when it's not going to change a thing.
But you got her wormed & vaccinated?
My guess is her vax cost about £84?
Or was that when you were planning on keeping her?
Otherwise why have her jabbed?0 -

But if she could rehome her with a decent home in the meantime would that not be a better option?0 -

Rehome?
She has said she doesn't want to advertise her & has tried every charity/rescue in the south east.
So if a charity/rescue can't & she won't advertise her what are the option???0 -
Battersea won't ake the dog as it's not neutered
PDSA will spay the dog for £84.
So pay £84 and then take her to Battersea - the dog has a chance and the OP has rid of the dog. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
The reality is that over 8000 healthy dogs a year are put down just because they are unwanted. If so many healthy dogs are being put to sleep, why would anyone logically invest funds in getting this one fit, whilst there are so many healthy dogs in the same situation?
This dog ending up in a rescue who will try and rehome her is a best case scenarion - ridgeback x staff is an increasingly common mix, and will be a nightmare to rehome - in fact I recieved an email yesterday looking for a space for a ridgeback x staff that is due to be put to sleep on tuesday - another young dog, but with no health problems. They are struggling to find a rescue with the resources to take that one on, nevermind a dog with a health problem.
This dog will most likely be in a lot of discomfort if she has a vaginal prolapse - and may well be susceptible to infections. She needs treating sooner rather than later, and must not go to a new owner without being speyed first.
The worst case scenario for this dog is not actually that she is put to sleep, but that she is left with this untreated, and that she gets an infection, or when she comes into season she is pestered (or worse) by male dogs. A prolapse may also affest her ability to pee, and this would be fatal if intreated.
OP, if a rescue cannot take her, and if you cannot afford to spey her yourself before rehoming, sadly, it may be kinder to take her to be put to sleep yourself. It goes so much against the grain for me to say that - she is only a youngster, but as I said, the outcomes of her going off to a new owner unspayed may be far, far worse for this pup.0 -

Because she needed jabs.
I have never planned on keeping her. She's not suitable around my children and I've never been under any illusion she would be suitable. It was a favour for a friend who won't take her back!!:j0 -
Rehome?

Yes rehome her.
If she advertises her the dog could end up anywhere couldn't it?
She contacted the rescues to see if they knew of anyone that was looking for a puppy. The same as she did with vets, and pet shops.
I don't know what other options there are and nor does she hence why she posted here asking if anybody had any other ideas?0 -
Ive checked on dog pages and there area lot of rescue centres who place dogs in foster homes while waiting for the right home.
Have you really tried them all.
i know a ridge back staffie cross wont be easy to rehome but if shes got a nice nature im sure one of these rescue cetres can help you.
I have sympathy with your situation but have you really tried all your options?0 -
I think some of you should give the OP a break. She didn't come on asking for advice for dog training, but on how to responsibly rehome a dog she has been landed with that was never meant to be a permanent arrangement.
I have a boisterous dog that can't be around children. Luckily I don't have kids so it's not a choice I have to make, but I've spent years trying to calm her down and failed dismally. Maybe that makes me a bad owner, but we're all different and we all have different levels of tolerance for what we can/are prepared to put up with. The OP had reached hers and that's her decision to make whatever the rest of you think.
She's come on here for advice to make the best of a difficult situation, and scaring people off by going off track and having a go isn't what MSE is meant to be about. Or it didn't used to be. Like she said, if she was less responsible she could just take the dog and dump it, and no-one would be any the wiser. She doesn't want to do that, she wants to find a good home. Give the poor woman a chance. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
