Only taking hand luggage on the plane - what about my contact lens solution?!

Hi all,
I am going away for a few days soon and only taking cabin baggage as it's only for a few days. My only problem is that i wear contact lenses which come with a 250ml bottle of lens solution. It's a special solution that i've never seen in smaller bottles.
How will i get on with boarding the aircraft with this as i have to put all my liquids under 100ml only into the little plastic bag - this is over 100ml?

It's always worth mentioning it to your local optician as mine doesnt actually sell bottles of less than 250ml of my solution but they do have 100ml (not for resale) trial bottle's that they supply me with now and again.
What I mostly do though is just buy an average of 1 months dailies per year for £10 from daysoft and just use these for holidays, it all depends on what type of lenses etc you currently use though.0 -
I also get a bottle of solution from my optician when going on holiday, I dont think lens solution would still be sterile if you decanted it into a smaller bottle.0

Hi, I ahve a particular type of lens that they don't do in a daily option, but i will ask my optician for a trial bottle of their lens solution.
thanks!0 -
boots sell aircraft allowable sized bottles of solution - a couple will fit in your plastic bag, if the people you are travelling with have space, get them to carry some too.
I tend to switch to dailies on holidays for convenienceHad a thrifty wedding 17-06-10

I would be inclined to hide it amongst the clothes. The chances of them searching the bag would be pretty slim.0

As the solution is meant to be sterile it isn't a good idea to decant it-Contact lense solution I always thought came under the medical supplies exemption anyway though ? EDIT Just double checked and the Heathrow site says the 100ml rule applies -but I know I've taken a bigger bottle before and declared it as medical supplies with no problem <shrug> Hopefully the trial size will be available for you.
Hiding it would be just plain silly-it'd show up when they scan the bagI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

As far as keeping it sterile goes, you could easily sterilise the bottle you are going to decant it into. Either that or buy some when you get airside in Boots, you'll then be able to take this on board because it was bought airside and then if you get stopped trying to bring it back into the country you can just throw it away as you'll have some when you get home. Obviously this would be a waste if you have to get trid of it before flying home but in my experience, i've never been stopped taking liquids through security flying home. The last time i flew was from Tunisia to Manchester, i was carrying a litre bottle of water when i went through security and no one batted an eye.0
