17 year old car insurance

Above is all good advice etc. Unfortunate Brum is a bad area for fraud and staged/induced accidents, so that combined with a young driver means higher premiums... Try also insurethebox and Coverbox. Remember, the cost when you have a provisional will be much lower than once you have passed your test so when you come to get insurance, try and find an insurer who is good value with both licences.
Have a look at Skoda Felicia's too as they are actually quite good and generally cheap to run – the later the car the better. Steer clear of the Matiz - they are probably the cheapest to insure but are absolutely terrible!0 -
OP - Please dont pay £4300 for one years car insurance. That is an painfully large amount of money to waste.0

Hi, just stumbled across i-kube, the premiums seem to be a LOT less, can anyone recommend this insurer and does it help it building a no claims bonus? (I would find out but their website is down at the moment :S)0

hey, I have to say as a 17 year old male, you won't get anything much cheaper.
I work in an insurance brokers and young males are the worst to insure.
I paid £1100 for my insurance when I passed my test aged 18, that was 4 years ago. It's because so many people claim for personal injury these days that insurance premiums can only go up.
Insurance companies will rate it on the youngest driver so adding parents won't make a huge difference.
Low mileage will help but it has to represent the mileage you'll actually do.
Try getting quotes for comprehensive cover as fewer companies do TPF&T now and comprehensive cover gives an age of vehicle discount that TPF&T doesn't.
I do recommend you get the insurance in your own name as young as possible as you'll earn no claims bonus - once you get the first years no claims bonus it's a 30% discount!
Good luck0 -
You thought of a moped/scooter as an alternative, use it for a few years till your 19 and check out the cost of insurance then,0

It works for our son, the added bonus is that there is a website where you can track the vehicle journeys so you can see what they are up to:)
He's 18 took pass plus and costs £1500 on a hyundai i-10 1.1 . half of anything else we had been quoted.
The only snag is the restriction on use between 11 and 5 but in our case if he was out that late he would be in a pub so wouldn't be driving.0 -
