Problem installing PC games - continued!

I'm trying to install Company of Heroes Anthology for my son which has arrived from Amazon (so not a dodgy copy!).
I run the setup.exe, click install and put in the product code then get a box appearing which says ' the software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify it's compatibility with Windows XP. The software will not be installed. Please contact your system administrator'.
I have not got a clue, Company of Heroes was installed on this machine before with no problems (except DS has lost the disc hence the new one!). Same problem happened with a game bought a few weeks ago so that's sitting about as well.
Can anyone help please?

I've been following the link in the post above and getting nowhere fast
Method 1 Rename the Edb.log file - i get 'the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process'
Method 2 Set Cryptographic Services to automatic - they were/are
Method 3 Rename the Catroot2 folder - when I type 'net stop cryptsvc ' I get 'the following services are dependent on the cryptsvc service. Stopping the cryptsvc service will also stop these services - True Vector Internet Monitor - Do you want to continue with this operation? <Y/N>. If I put yes it says ' the requested pause or stop is not valid for this service. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2191'
Method 4 Reregister DLL files that are associated with Cryptographic Services - Done, no probs
Method 5 Remove the hidden attribute from %Windir% and from its subfolders - Done, no probs
Method 6 Set non-driver signing policy to silently succeed - the value data said 00 so no change
Method 7 and onwards look complicated to me! Should I carry on and try and understand what it's talking about and hope I don't bodge it or go back to Method 1? I've tried googling 'edb.log the process cannot access the file' which comes up with quite varied results but no obvious conclusion.
Any help would be much appreciated
PS I also have a couple of security updates that keep failing which look like they may be part of the same problem?0 -

Have you tried changing Driver Signing settings?
Your XP's system policy for driver signing can be reached from the Driver Signing button of Control Panel->System Properties->Hardware
Make sure your XP system is set at either Warn or Ignore and not Block.
Edit - Make sure you put a tick in the 'make this action the system default' Administrator option box as well.0
