my waspinator WORKS

we are surrounded by many apple trees and have had a constant problem lately with wasps. They were stopping us from sitting outside or even having any windows on the south side open during the day. I left a bedroom balcony door ajar for an hour the other day and 6 wasps were inside the glass.

I didn`t want to kill them but they do make me very nervous so I sent for a waspinator, while being very sceptical. We hung it yeterday, upstairs on a beam underneath the top balcony and it sways gently in the breeze

The wasps did not arrive today!!! It works

How does the Waspinator get rid of wasps?

The Waspinator is a fake wasps nest. Wasps are very territorial and will aggressively defend their nest against wasps from another colony. When a foraging wasp sees another wasps nest it will rapidly leave the area for fear of being attacked by the nest's defenders.
Wasps have a very long range of vision and when they see a Waspinator they think it's an enemy wasps nest and quickly leave the area for somewhere safer, leaving the area around the Waspinator completely free of wasps.
Love it will remember for next year!!!
Greyer by the minute - Older by the hour - Wiser by the day
  • I also have wasps gathering in my compost bin on my new allotment. My own fault as I did put apple peelings in. I cannot do anything about that now, except to avoid the bin but have found a plant called wormwood, which repels wasps and other pests. I have ordered the seeds and next year will put a couple of plants behind my `yet to be built` shed and in between the new compst bins that I am planning. I will also put a couple of plants in pots for my balcony and my garden. The waspinator has been a complete surprise as I was completely prepared for it to be money down the drain

I will actually enjoy pottering next year

As it costs quite a bit, would it be possible to make a homemade version?

I heard you can use a brown paper bag blown up and tied at the top and put that up as it looks like a wasps nest

I make my own wasp traps but they are not wasp friendly. I use a 2 litre milk carton and put a letter box opening in the side about two thirds the way from the bottom on one side, push the letter box in, so wasps can get in. put in some sugar water and a dash of vinegar and hey presto a very good anti wasp device, but death is the only option for the little blighters.

This has proved very effective at keeping considerably the number of wasps around some fruit trees.

I have been a pest controller for 25 years and have seen many wasp nests some within a foot from another one even 7 in one house all around the eaves, the waspinator is pure bunkum ! Much the same as sonic repellers are.

Have to agree here, saw Waspinators in use at a National Trust house, plus loads of wasps hanging around the tables, it was so bad we ate inside, and even that was not wasp free

I strongly disagree about the sonic repellers if you are referring to the types that repel mice/rats etc. I have one and I have been mouse free for 3yrs in the house ever since getting a repeller, they are fantastic. for me, far superior to poisoning or humane catching etc...

I have never seen a waspinator though , so cant comment

I really regret having to report that my waspinator did not work for juvenile wasps towards the end of the season. The number of adults did reduce significantly though. Maybe having it up from the start of the year will have a better effect.
