cheapest place for glasses

hiya

i've had an eye test at asda and have my prescription - asda frames were £50 + 40 for lenses + £10 for tint

does anyone know the cheapest place to get my presciption changed?

My local Tesco has recently opened an opticians in store. I got my eyes tested for free and bought reading glasses for £20. The prices start at £10 I think, I was expecting the frames and lens to be charged separately but the prices were all-in. Lens included. My first time of buying glasses so I am no expert but seemed a good price to me! Might be worth seeing if any of your local Tesco stores have an opticians.

Why did you not take your prescription and shop around? Just because you have your test at one shop doesn't restrict you to buying your glasses there.

Oops sorry I had read another thread where someone was saying they just wanted lenses but were persuaded to buy 2 pairs of new glasses as it worked out cheaper in that shop. I've posted my reply in the wrong thread!:o

In Tesco opticians they do have glasses complete from £20, but they are pretty basic. They have plenty of styles for £65 they are relatively cheap, but some really nice ones and it is BOGOF if they cost £65 or more. They do designer ones for £99 and up, so as they are BOGOF, you would still get better value for money than Asda ones.
My friend bought hers online from abroad. She paid £20 and they are very nice and modern looking. I will ask her what site she got them through and update on here later. I have to say, I had a free eye test at our new Tesco opticians on Friday, and it was the most thorough eye test I have ever had. I have my prescrition and will be definitely shopping around, although I did love a pair in Tesco for £69 and I could have got them in 2 different colours too!

I've bought a couple of pairs from glassesdirect.co.uk. They seem alright, though I ordered the cheapest I could find (BOGOF, total cost £24) as I wanted to see what sort of quality they were. Quite good, though mine were no-frills- the ones I want will be £49 BOGOF....

Just been looking at this site too http://www.glassesdirect.co.uk and you can have a free trial of 4 pairs for a week. Free delivery to you, and free returns of the trail pairs. Very good idea. When you click on first time, they give you a voucher code for free delivery of your specs.

They are doing glasses for only £5 at the moment, just have a look on the homepage banner. They also have a buy one get one free offer running for Bench glasses (you end up getting them for £19.50 each)

Hi OP, do you know why you were quoted £10 for a tint at asda? We've had free tints for a good few months now?

Also the £40 for lenses, is this for varifocals?

At the time we charged for tints the base cost was £70 for glasses then £40 varifocal top up, the £50 base cost just came in in October and is a rollback til December but we physically can't charge for a tint, the computer system just doesn't allow it so not sure who did your quote for you?
