BIOS on a 64 bit PC

I am trying to update my Motherboard BIOS (MS-7366)

Can anyone see why Microstar should specify a particular file as a BIOS upgrade for 32 bit computers only ?

When I tried the file - it told me "INCOMPATIBLE" with my 64bit PC - But surely the BIOS is NOTHING to do with the OS ?

Presumably the design architechture differs between 32-bit- and 64-bit-compatible motherboards, so you need the right BIOS depending on your machine architecture (irrespective of the OS).

Actually its more to do with the drivers required for communicating with the motherboard when programming. There haven't been any "32-bit" only motherboards manufactured for well over half a decade now since the introduction of Althon64 and Intel Core Duo.

Do you have p6ngm-... motherboard? I don't think you have found the correct download.
Go to msi website and search ms-7366 then downloads then bios. I think you have d/l a driver file, not a bios file.

    Thanks for your advice
  • probably as importantly...why are you upgrading the BIOS? If it isn't broken you shouldn't be needing to mess with it...I'm not suggesting it will go wrong, because 99.9% don't, but most BIOS updates are to allow compatibility with more recent processors, if you're not taking advantage of this then you may be as well leaving alone.
...and your error looks as though you're trying to run a low level 32 bit program under a 64 bit environment.
