Help - Funding avice needed.

Hey guys I was just wondering if you would be able to help me out with some information please.

I'll tell you what my situation is first of all.

Basically, I have failed my second year of university and have been allowed to retake in on the grounds 'exceptional personal circumstances',which are...I had some family issues and I was stressed out about a friend working overseas(Afgan) in the armed forces.

The university were aware that I was struggling around Febuary time and the original plan was to intercalate my studies until the next year, but I decided I wanted to carry on and eventually failed.

The problem is, I have applied for student finance and it was assessed as I was going to be going into my third and final year, all was approved(Tuition fee, Maintenence loan and maitenance grant), the maintenance grant was like £400 lower than last year but Ive heard that it is because SFE dont cover for the summer months as if you were going back for another year, is that correct?

I then rang up on Aug 17 to ask what I should do about the change in my course which they advised me to send a change of circumstances form to my LEA.

Whilst speaking to them(SFE) over the past few days Ive had a different pieces advice. From change in circumstances (ie the repeat year) would not affect funding to others saying that the change in circumstances(repeat year) would mean a re-assessemt and likley a drop in the funding of my maintenence grant.

Is this is what is likley to happen, or should I be funded the normal amount based on the +1 system? (ie, full tuition, m grant and m loan?) or should I be funded with compelling personal circumstances to be taken into consideration?

I have the evidence from university and the evidence I used to support my case at university that could be used as evidence if needs be.

Anyhow, I hope somebody can help me a bit, and if you need any information or I haven't explained clearly please let me know.
Cheers.
Mike.

Also, on the +1 system, is this correct.

Length of course - 3 years +1 = 4 years - 2 years previous = 2 years funding available?

  • Anybody else, sighhhhh.
  • You are certainly correct about the plus one system - you've rather lost me on the rest.

Do you have a doctor note or other proofs of exceptional circumstance. Just you saying that you had reasons is not good enough.

Yes at the moh you'll only get loan for for another 2 years fees, but you can still get maintenance loan after those two years.
