Pram advice

I totally echo what Tia said - go to a shop and try them out. This is the most important thing. What suits one person, may not suit you.
Everyone has different lifestyles and priorities. Will you be doing a lot of walking over rough terrain? If so, you are better with bigger wheels. If it's mainly nice pavements and shopping centres, smaller wheels are fine etc.
Go and try them out and don't just go with what someone else recommends or slates. It's fair enough to listen to what they think are the good and bad points, but bear the advice in mind and judge it for yourself.
I found it impossible to get one that ticked all of my boxes for me, so I got the one which came closest, and I am very happy with it, but there are still a few things I would change.0 -
You've been given some excellent advice but I want to emphasise that you should buy the car seat that best its your car not the one that fits the pushchair you want.
Also newborn babies should not be left in car seats for periods longer than 20 minutes under the age of 6 weeks as their scrunched up position inhibits airflow to the lungs which could lead to death. Wheeling a baby around town in a car seat is not a good idea. Car seat manufacturers do normally briefly mention this in their literature but we don't all read and take note.0 -
Hi I had my baby in July and after shopping around looking at prams I chose the Mamas and Papas pliko pramette. It is both forward or reverse facing, fairly easy to fold and unfold, new baby can lie flat in it comfortably facing mum, has a large shopping basket, adjustable handles if 1 partner is taller, raincover apron and hood included and converts from pram to pushchair as child grows. It fits through my mums doorway aswell which isn't very wide and I was pleased with the variety of designs as they were mostly unisex colour ranges .It fits into car boots easily too and isn't very heavy (about 9kgs).
I paid £250 for mine because I only live 5 mins away from mamas&papas factory outlet shop.
We didn't buy the matching car seat as hubby prefered the maxi-cosi pebble car seat for the car.
Other prams we considered were the silvercross 3d system which is similar to mamas&papas pramette or quinny buzz as it was compatible with the maxi-cosi car seat.Love can tame the wildest0 -

Raincover is included in price (not all prams come with raincovers as standard ). With DD we had a Britax Vigour (i think they may have changed it now), similar but a bit bigger and a bit dearer.

Sorry to butt in...we're thinking of getting a M&P (urbo) and I've read online about the fact that the Aton car seat adapters work with Maxi cosi car seats...do you know this for a fact? Or just from reading online? I don't feel right asking in store as I feel they might not want you to know this because they probably want you buying everything from them. The Aton car seat is £125 from M&P, it's £99.99 from Halfords and there's one in argos for £85. I assume they are the same seat - but not 100% sure.
i read on M&P website that Maxi Cosi ones fit. I also asked in my local nursery store which stocks both brands and they confirmed it. There is a Maxi Cosi car seat in Argos for £97. Ive heard Maxi Cosi and Britax have been through more rigorous testing than other makes of car seat (though all pass EU safety standards, these 2 exceed them the most i believe)
We looked at the Urbo but crossed it off our list as personally, i though the baby/child sat too low (seat too low down for my liking), have you tested it?

We've got this one with the matching car seat. C is 12 months old in 12 days  and we love it. It doesn't fold brilliantly as you have to remove the seat from the chassis but it fits in my 206cc boot with one wheel off. For the price, I can't recommend it highly enough.

thank you,
i was just going to ask if you have to remove the seat to fold it,
is it easy enough to take the seat on/off the chassis?

I think prams are an individual thing. I have a bebeconfort loola with winadoo carrycot and creatis car seat, soon to be used on a 3rd child.
For us the car seat clicking onto the chassis was something I have done but its a rarity maybe 6-7 times over 2 kids and each one spend 12+ months in the infant carrier bit. The seat unit is recomended 6+ months I think, I like the fact we can parent face if we like, I found this useful if we were walking into the wind, both my DD's hated the raincover being on so reversing the seat unit was a good compromise.
An easy attatched rain cover was/is a must for us, Scotland so weather changes at drop of a hat sometimes. I have honestly seen sun, hail, rain and snow all in one shopping trip into the city centre.
Is there somewhere to keep the raincover when not in use, what about your change bag? Don't underestimate the weight of a change bag when full of the 'essential' baby bits.
I drive so rarely push and carry alot of shopping, I tend to just nip back and put it in the boot but if you don't what do you do with your shopping?
foldable for public transport?
umm probably loads more, but i can't think at the momentMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -

I'd like to echo this, have your car seat fitted to ensure you've got the one mosgt suitable for your car.
Though we had a seat that fitted the pushchair, I never used it like it, I wanted my baby in the seat for the least amount of time possible, due to the positioning.
It's each to their own of course, but I always think little new babies look too upright to be comfortable in car seats on pushchairs.
But then I'm a worrier, I am the mother who whips sleeping babe out of the moses basket because she's convinced something's wrong, wakes to stroke a little hand until it responds, usually with a whaaaah etc.
Anyhoo, you've had lots of advice, and the main thing I can add is, have a truly wonderful time with your new baby, it's the best thing in the world, and I hope you enjoy every precious second of it.
Good luck.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
We went for the maclaren techno xlr with the recaro car seat that fits with adaptors. Our son is 2 and buggy still going strong. For us it was a price thing as this worked out much cheaper and the buggy was really light. Plus we were mainly out in the car so we tended to use the car seat clipped on the buggy most of the time in the early days so he was facing us (he was born in winter). If I had more money would have loved a pram that faced us. Also make sure it fits in the boot of the car. As for a carry cot thingy personally wouldnt bother unless your planning to walk and not use the car as they grow out of them so quickly.0
