Why rejected for tesco credit card?

  • He obviously looks a bit shifty. ;)

You may have more credit history than him - other card, accounts, phone contracts etc. He's very likely to get one of the others. But just make sure he spends on it then pays it all off each month (the interest is a lot higher). A few months of that and he may be in a position to apply for something higher up the financial ladder.

Yeah yorkshire boy, hes always been offered a credit card in every bank meeting his been to! But always turned it down because he wasnt really needing it... so will prob go in
zx81, Just had a look, the interest rates are sky high but like you said if he pays off his payments all the time and then in a few months applys for something else... Thanks for your advice
  • I would say try with your own bank too-but wait a short while before asking after the recent rejection
i was declined by tesco (annoyingly) so waited 3 months and spoke to my own bank who gave me one-its my first cc
  • I applied for Tesco and got turned down too, since then have been approved for Sainsburys and now a new Virgin one, I have good credit never missed a payment £30K salary, yet got turned down. Was annoyed but then thought well stuff you I will get one with someone else. I have a feeling Tesco must be very picky on who they take on.

Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200
Grocery Challenge £200 pm Jan £0/£200
January no spend days - 1/31

I wonder if females have a higher acceptance, with it been they normaly do the shopping?
  • I've just recently been rejected by both Tesco and Sainsburys for their cards with 12/13 month 0% on purchases at the moment. I have a no adverse credit history, never missed a payment, good salary etc. I have never paid a penny of charges or interest to a credit card company in my life, and I suspect (with no basis in evidence) that some companies are cherry picking those customers who they feel will generate income for them.

So I applied for a Barclaycard platinum with 0% on purchases for 12 months and got that, so I'm happy enough.

I too got declined for a tesco credit card when applying online. I phoned them today and they had no record of my application. All they said was the website "was having technical issues" and declining alot of people without carrying out any checks. He suggested i tried again and would "probably" be ok. I got an experian report and there is no history of any search for a credit card application 2 days before. I won't be trying again!
  • refering to the 1st post he has hardly any history as said by others he needs to approach his own bank 1st and then build his history or failing that try a sub prime card for 8 to 12 months then try mainstream card...get a phone contract and even a jd williams account just to get building those nice zeros!!:D
Aqua card - £250 Limit up to date, Jd Williams £150 limit up to date, Argos store card £400 limit up to date, Next £300 limit up to date.
