My New Laptop is sooo slow ...why?

Basically have a new Acer laptop and its really slow. It seems something is hogging the memory. When I click ctrl alt del it says my cpu usage is at 100%!

Is there a way of me shutting down the software that is causing this as its really bugging me!

  • Hi maniac,

I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you but like wise my pc is running soo slow and the cpu usuage is sometimes up to 100% as well. I seem to have five indentical processes running at the same time, svchost.exe, but as IT etc is not my strong point I have no idea what they are and would like to have my computer running faster. Can you tell me what svchost.exe actually is? The only thing I know is that it might be a programme as it ends in exe.

The only thing I can suggest, maniac, is to check the programmes that might be in your start up menu to see if there's anything there you don't want to run at start up.

Please, all you knowledgable It people can you help?

    thanks

    which laptop do you have?

if you righ click on your task bar (at the bottom of the screen), not on an application, and select task manager.. under process click the wrd CPU a couple of times and you should see some numbers in that column and should be sorted in largest descending - it will change a bit but if there is one process taking 100% of your cpu it should be at the top.

if you note what it is someone will be able to help you.

I have an acer.....i have a feeling its the bundled software that is causing the laptop to be so damn slow. When I turn on acer epower.technology the cpu usage goes through the roof!

i have a new acer as well, but not suffering fromt the same issue, you could remove it, but not entirely sure what impact that will have.

  • Check the Task Manager again and check to see if in the processes column the 100% is actually the CPU or the CPU Idle Process. If it is, it is telling you that the CPU is running at 0%. Mine always shows 99% unless I'm running graphics etc. The problem could be something else and you need to eliminate possibilities.

I have deleted the acer software and my laptop is super fast now! I may email acer to see why this has happened but i have noticed that this problem is not uncommon when I search on google!
