PPI - was I ripped off, can I reclaim?

Barclaycard included PPI in my contract when I took out the card in 2002 even though I was self-employed (which they knew). I found out a few months ago that I was not covered under their PPI policy as self-employed so I cancelled the policy. I did not sign a separate contract for PPI. Can I reclaim everything I paid into the policy? i.e. £12.50 x 12mths x 8yrs = £1,200. I also bank with Barclays so I imagine I'll get some backlash.

You are only not covered for the employment part - what about the other benefits?0

Yes you have a chance of getting back up to 6 years' worth (NB not 8 years - you can only go back 6 years).

That may be true - but doesn't stop it from being declared as missold if overall it was inappropriate.0
