so i wrote about this somewhere else and was advised to come here! basically my partner works and gets money but the only money i get it child benefit and tax credits.
i got a letter saying you didn't renew your tax credits you owe us £1000
we've looked everywhere. we have a box for all money related letters and never throw anything away. we cannot find this stupid form they sent us and neither of us remember it at all
i guess it's me just being stupid but i didn't realise i had to renew, i thought i only informed them if i changed circumstances. if i had seen this letter i would have phoned them and asked them about it not just done nothing?
all my partners wages go on our son, or the upcoming baby, rent, bills, travel, food etc. we were paying off our credit card from the money from tax credits which we now don't have so we owe halifax £1,200 and tax credits £1000 yet all i have is £20 child benefit to even begin to pay either of them.
i'm in such a muddle... can anyone offer some advice?

If you haven't allready, ring them! and explain what has happened
I did renew mine, but got a letter a few weeks ago saying I had to pay all money back as I hadn't renewed! I rang them and they gave me a 14 day deadline to ring back with all my income details.
If you can find your Husbands P60, his income details will be on there.
Good Luck!

Go to your local HMRC enquiry centre asap and use one of their free phones to call TCO. You can find your local one here - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/enq/main.htm
The problem is that as well as the annual renewal pack TCO will also have sent a reminder just after the 31st July deadline.
