MCO Capital loan

Davidbuk - thanks - I found the web site but it is misleading don't you think? - here's quote:
"Imagine this: out of the blue, tomorrow morning, you get a letter in the post from a payday loan company asking you to repay a debt of £500. You’ve never heard of the company and you certainly never borrowed any money from them. But if you refuse to pay it, they’re going to pursue you through the courts. You call them up and discover they’ve got a few pieces of (easily discoverable) correct information about you: your name, your postal address and your date of birth. But they have got one key piece of information wrong: your bank account number. And that’s where the money was sent.
Believe it or not, this really could happen to you tomorrow - if you’re one of an estimated 5,000 people who have been the victims of a massive payday loan scam, revealed this month by the BBC’s MoneyBox programme.
Clever scammers managed to steal at least £1.5bn from payday loan company Help Loan after they noticed scant identity checks were carried out by loan applicants in a quick and easy ten-minute loan approval process.
The application process has since been modified but this will come as little comfort to the victims, who have been told to write to Help Loan via the debt recovery firm it is using, Intrum Justitia, in order to register the debt as a "false loan". This will stop the debt collection firm in its tracks while police investigations continue."

Sent my letter to IJ today special delivery at a cost of £5.05. I advised them that should I hear any more from them then I(or rather my father) reserve the right to pursue them and MCO Capital for costs. I hoping that that set the right tone and I wont hear anything more about it.
However, my father was taken ill over the weekend and is now in hospital. Apparently, a 3rd letter has arrived, presumably from IJ stating that debt recovery procedures have been set in motion. I really need crap like that at this time. I really hope MCO, etc., get theirs big time.
Cheers,

I hope your father being in hospital isnt a consequence of these letters. If so I would be seriously thinking about pursuing MCO and IJ through the courts for the stress related illness they have caused.
It seems this credit issue is gaining further momentum in the media. What confuses me is MCO will have the account numbers the money has been paid into so can no doubt chase the money so to speak.0 -

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your father having to be taken to hospital - this bloody lot have a lot to answer for.
If I were in your shoes, I would get myself a lawyer and take this crowd to the cleaners - surely there can be no doubt that receiving 3 letters has been a contributory factor. I hope that all works out well and best wishes to your dad.
I note that as of 11.00 pm this forum has received over 900 hits since THIS MORNING - truly amazing!0 -
Hope your dad is feeling better soon, jahman!
I have had an interesting experience with the CRAs. As soon as I got my letter from Helploan, I applied for protective registration with CIFAS. Then I wrote to all three CRAs to get a copy of my £2 credit report. Because of the CIFAS registration, both Callcredit and Equifax contacted me directly to confirm my identity. Experian did not make any additional checks even though the CIFAS registration shows up clearly on the report I received from them.
So there is definitely a difference in the way the CRAs respond to CIFAS registration.0 -

Well I have just phoned IJ on 0844 5765731 and told them about my 3rd letter. I got through to quite a softly spoken woman who checked the bank the money was sent to, she said it was sent to a Royal Bank of Scotland account , who I dont even bank with and told her so. The DoB was correct, but I neither confirmed or denied that and then she checked the mobile number given and it wasnt mine. She said the account will be blocked.
She then said I had to write to Intrum Justicia basically telling them what I have just said over the phone, and to sign the letter (I wont be signing it of course). She also gave me their PO Box postal address which I find strange. I enquired whether it was possible to just email them which I have already done using the email address on the IJ website. She said no I needed to write. I am still not sure why i need to waste the cost of postage when I have already told her over the phone.
I mentioned this is becoming quite a big scam and she just sighed and said yes a lot of people have been affected.
As already mentioned I fired off an email before all this that stated at the end if they contacted me again I shall report them to the Police for harrassment.0 -
Oh, she also said when I write I will get a reply from MCO saying the debt in my name had been cancelled, but going by messages on here it seems this doesnt happen.0

You are correct in suspecting that you will not get any confirmation of receipt of your letter - I know of no-one who has ever received such a letter - not on this forum anyway!!!0
