Yes grahamqat - I used the email address you passed on namely: enquiries@oft.gsi.gov.uk .
I e-mailed this address too on 8th November asking specifically whether MCO Capital had broken the law in granting credit without properly checking whether the data supplied by the applicants (ie the fraudsters) matched the data held by the CRAs. This is the reply I got today:I am very sorry to hear about the difficulties you have been experiencing with the above mentioned trader however, the OFT has no authority to become involved in individual disputes between consumers and traders so we cannot advise you directly in this matter.
The OFT is aware that a number of consumers have been targeted by potential fraudsters who have taken out loans in their name with Mobile Credit Online Capital Limited (MCO). These consumers are then contacted by MCO seeking repayment of the loan. The OFT would advise consumers who have received a demand for a loan they know nothing about to contact MCO at its registered office address and confirm that a loan has not been requested and payment has not been received. MCO's address is Imperial House, 15-19 Kingsway London WC2B 6UN.
I'm not sure why my message got answered so quickly but the reply is pretty useless!0 -

Yes Geomac, it will be interesting to compare the response you get with the one I got. Let us know!0

Prudence - I suspect that the answer you got will be copied (cut & paste) into the final response that I too will receive. At least they are not indulging in the classic civil service obfuscation of sending the same response to all complainants!! Sorry if I come across as vaguely positive re the regulatory system sycophants:cool: It's pathetic that their recommended course of action is way out of date and not in accord with others - I despair!!!
I think you'd probably be better writing to the FSA rather than the OFT. I would imagine the FSA have the ability to take more immediate action than anyone else.0 -
