I read an article about Action Fraud a little while ago.

The whole operation is in a tiny office no larger than the average local Chippy.
There cannot be more than half dozen workers in the whole premises.

Can't find the story now :(

Letter came this morning for £ 513 on looking at the web site I saw this address that doesent seem to be posted anywhere on the thread.
    MCO Capital Ltd
    16th Floor
    Portland House
    Bressenden Place
    London
    SW1E 5RS

    Company number 6472855

Yet another new address - that's the third one now! The company number remains the same though. No-one can convince me that MCO are an innocent party in this as suggested by Action Fraud.

That's great news - well done.
Can I suggest that you write to your MP and Euro MP, including the verifiable facts about MCO, and asking what they are going to do about financial regulation that allows a company like that to operate, what they are going to do about the unchecked power of the credit agencies to accept searches from companies like this and then fail to act when they are using obviously dodgy data, and what they are doing about useless agencies which fail to either check the facts or protect the public - you could start with ActionFraud. The Euro MP should be asked what European legislation is intended to prevent such frauds, and when.
    Sleep well;-)

Good idea Colin - I will set about composing a letter for my MP and MEP

Look like I am the latest in a long line of people this company are trying to scam for £513. I received my letter this morning which was dated 17th August demanding that I make payment by 14th Sept. They recommend that I pay by bank transfer or call them on 0844 576 5731 to pay by debit or credit card.

I have now wasted three hours contacting the FSO, Crimestoppers and Strathclyde Police, all of which have offered little or no help at all.

Having read all these threads, I've decided that I will post their letter back to them, telling them to politely F**K OFF and copy the police in.

This crap has ruined my Saturday morning and its time the Authorities done something about it!!!!!!!

I know exactly how you feel Lokie - I got my letter last Saturday am and it spoiled my weekend break over on the West Coast (had to take my laptop with me and write emails/leave messages on web sites etc to all and sundry.
I am located in Scotland and my police force (Tayside) are going to conduct a fraud investigation - their search of the Scottish intelligence data base showed 5 other people in Scotland similarly impacted (Fife, Lothians and Tayside). Did you take your letter down to a police station and face up to a PC? That worked for me - he called the MCO telephone number (as you have cited above) there and then and managed to get my loan cancelled. The telephone number takes you to a call centre allegedly handling MCO (and other companies!!!!!!) calls but they had my data - they even asked for my DoB but I refused but she did manage to quote me the same Dob as on the Experian checks they made.
This whole things stinks to high heaven - why are MCO still sending out new letters to new people when according to Action Fraud, they are now aware of the fraud (of which they claim to be a victim - rubbish!!). It's time to get back to Action Fraud and update them!!

I have just contacted Action Fraud again and asked that they at least update their web page re MCO. I've explained how much information we have found since they posted their advice page on 10 September. Can I ask others to do the same? Tel no 03001232040 (DO NOT PRESS BUTTON FOR MCO - wait for an operator).
Apparently they are part of the National Fraud Authority and are the first point of call for the National Fraud Investigation Branch of London Police (https://www.nfib.police.uk).
I politely suggested that this issue is much bigger than their claim that MCO is the victim (they are still offering loans and sending out letters), that the MCP registered accounts are unbelievable, that they have multiple addresses (at least one of which we know is only a mailing location (Imperial House, Kingsway, London), that they appear not to have a licence to lend money, that their interest rate is approaching 1000% (£213 on a loan of £300 for one month) etc.
Hopefully this will help stir them from their lethargy!!

Nope, just wait for the next batch of letters to arrive.
The rest are playing "head in the sand" ;-)
I've been busy with more FOI's, and mailing my MP. I know him, so expect a lot of words. Action is not something he's familiar with, unless it's rushing in front of a press opportunity, or taking credit for something he has a vague connection with.
If this was Greece, or one of the more volatile countries, we'd now have a band of several hundred people ready to visit wherever MCO actually live (have you seen a pic of the latest address? Portland? Got to be yet another mailing address), to return their letters in an appropriate manner.
Take the rest of the weekend off, hopefully you are in the clear, and you've already contributed a great deal. Thanks.

Colin - did you really expect your MP to be any different form the expense sucking hypocrites that they are???? My local MP is a Socialist firebrand whose only aim is to bring down the current coalition - he also has at leats 2 weekly (very weakly - note deliberate spelling) press events where he pontificates about zilch!!
I'm taking tomorrow off and about to have a strong Macallan - Goodnight and thanks for active support.icon14.gif

I used another email address (with a reply receipt request) and the following came back 2 days later:
    Viesti

    Vastaanottaja: customerservice@helploan.co.uk
Aihe: Fraudulent loan Reference13653-XXXXXX (my X's)
    Lähetetty: 24.9.2010 16:52

    on luettu 25.9.2010 22:42.

    Looks Finnish?
Anyway I had tried helpdesk@helploan.co.uk and another similar helpdesk one but the one that worked is
    customerservice@helploan.co.uk.
From the "heading" of this email it appears to have been directed overseas - most likely Finland
