Know what you mean. I had never done a credit check before but did one for both me and my husband on 14th August with Experian and 1st 'loan' date was 21st August and had another two since for 17th August (received today) and 1st September - makes you wonder :question:0

I'm another one with the letter requesting £513. I've just checked Experian and there are two searches by MCO.. I've email Experian and will send a letter to MCO tomorrow. Like the FOI suggestion.0

What's the Experian connection? I've received a letter today and did a bit of digging before finding this forum. Equifax haven't alerted me to a credit search. I get alerts due to a previous ID impersonation, and signed up to CIFAS, which seemed a good idea at the time....but when I tried to take out a phone contract some months later it was VERY difficult to prove that I was who I said I was. The phone company wanted every possible bit of ID you could imagine, rather than just the usual couple of bits...it was a truly horrible experience, and then, after a year, CIFAS wipe your record and you have to register again. If you can bear having to divulge your entire being and existence to the 'bloke behind the counter', when you want any form of credit, then sign up to CIFAS, but I won't be knocking on their door again.
MCO have a credit rating of £0. The only accounts they have filed are to December 2008, when they had a working capital of -£1535.00!! The Public Record information for them shows an 'Intention to Dissolve Company' filed in May 2009, and they have one week to file accounts for the year to December 2009, to not be in breach of company law. Their SIC Code is: 7499 (1992) NON-TRADING COMPANY DORMANT. Curiously though, their Consumer Credit Licence appears to be legit when checked with the OFT.0 -
Can I make a suggestion to everybody, like myself, who is a victim? Immediately put in an FOI request to your local police authority and Trading standards body, requesting all information on their dealings with MCO Capital and/or Helploan? That should give an idea of the volumes of people involved, what, if anything, those authorities (particularly our friends in London and Warwick ) have actually done. Those bodies are legally bound to provide the information within 20 days, so it's entirely possible we'll see who has been spoken to at MCO, where they are, and what they are claiming. Then perhaps some collective action could be organised.
Please post your views on this line, and any information you can obtain.
Good idea Colin. A second person in the region where I live has been duped as well - as reported in the Dundee Courier newspaper a few days ago - the report appears when a Google search of "MCO Capital Dundee Courier" is done.
I've had another couple of thoughts:
1. How many of us on this forum have experienced prior identity fraud or attempts to mess with our credit card (resulting in a new card being issued)?
2. Are we all of a "certain vintage" where the chances of our simply accepting that we are due this money is more likely i.e. old f**rts?
My Experian account was approached twice by MCO - one was a generic check and the second was for the purposes of providing a loan!!!0 -
I'm another one who received a demand for £513 yesterday (24th Sept). Letter was dated 16th Aug and paymeny was due by 13th Sept - almost two weeks ago.
Have written & emailed as actiofraud.org.uk web site suggested but it seems from this forum that was a waste of time.0 -

Guilty on both counts ;-)
I've FOI'd lots of people this morning, but interestingly, despite being a government agency, ActionFraud (a) didn't know what an FOI request was, and (b) have no provision for providing the information. (Think that's illegal)
So I've gone "upstairs" in their case, and FOI'd the National Fraud Agency. I've advised ActionFraud that they are colluding with MCO Capital in this scam, by having failed to do the necessary background checks, and giving out incorrect advice on their website/phone lines. The agent told me he'd pass my comments on to the manager on Monday. That's probably so crooks know that weekends are the best time to work. Any legals watching this site, could you comment on how valid the letters are in strictly legal terms, without copies of a loan agreement? If not legal, then ActionFraud really do need a severe chastising.

This morning I went down to town centre to post a second letter to MCO Capital - to their Warwick address this time. On my way back, I thought I'd stop at the small local police station (normally unmanned) as I saw the car out front.
Explained the issue to two very youthful police officers who were extremely helpful and understanding. They called the 0844 576 5731 number and got through quickly to a call centre - I gave them permission to talk to the policeman, who talked to them in private and after 5 minutes or so, lo and behold the loan was written off there and then. The policeman checked the local intelligence base and found another 5 folks had been similarly defrauded. He also promised to report the issue to their force fraud department and request they carry out an investigation!
A relief for me but I retain a determination to help the battle agin MCO and whoever else is involved.0 -
Letter came this morning for £ 513 on looking at the web site I saw this address that doesent seem to be posted anywhere on the thread.
MCO Capital Ltd

Look like I am the latest in a long line of people this company are trying to scam for £513. I received my letter this morning which was dated 17th August demanding that I make payment by 14th Sept. They recommend that I pay by bank transfer or call them on 0844 576 5731 to pay by debit or credit card.
I have now wasted three hours contacting the FSO, Crimestoppers and Strathclyde Police, all of which have offered little or no help at all.
Having read all these threads, I've decided that I will post their letter back to them, telling them to politely F**K OFF and copy the police in.
This crap has ruined my Saturday morning and its time the Authorities done something about it!!!!!!!0 -

That's great news - well done.
Can I suggest that you write to your MP and Euro MP, including the verifiable facts about MCO, and asking what they are going to do about financial regulation that allows a company like that to operate, what they are going to do about the unchecked power of the credit agencies to accept searches from companies like this and then fail to act when they are using obviously dodgy data, and what they are doing about useless agencies which fail to either check the facts or protect the public - you could start with ActionFraud. The Euro MP should be asked what European legislation is intended to prevent such frauds, and when.
Sleep well;-)0
