sore breast during period

Hi everyone!
Does anyone else have this problem? I currently have a very sore right breast and don't know how to ease the tenderness. I am in the middle of my period so I assume it's hormone related but I only have the tenderness in one breast and not both. The pain is on the outer edge and can go up as far as my armpit and it's driving me potty. I am not in total agony but it is very achey and sore. And yes I have checked and although my boob is lumpy there are no hard lumps if you see what i mean. I had a similar pain last month but can't remember if that was on my period aswell but i am going to write down when i am sore and see what happens next month. Any tips on how to ease the pain would be very much appreciated.

Its normal, its to do with hormone levels. If its any consolation I get this from ovulation through to the end of my period (about 15-20 days) it worsens for me as I near to the start of my period. Think its something to do with the Oestrogen levels.
Best advice? get a good supportive bra: sports bras are good, Shock Absorber branded bras being the best in helping for me.
Also watch water retention so things like eating too much salt in foods or not drinking enough water can lead to water retention and resting well (7-8 hours of sleep a night).
You can take painkillers which can help a little- just basic supermarket shelve stuff, but it wont get rid of the pain and just reduces it a fraction.
If you notice any other symptoms, see a doctor to rule anything else out.0 -
Evening Primrose oil before your period and during it. The pain can also be water retention so make sure you drink plenty so the body doesn't try to retain fluid as it's dehydrated.
Keep away from chocolate etc. I've found it can make things worse.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0 -
I have had a painful left breast for years. I have been through the medical routines, but there is nothing wrong, nor any cure.
I take strong evening primrose tablets. Occasionally I have thought they must be a placebo and have not bought more, but my god, I suddenly get shooting pains. this has happened a couple of times, making me want to clutch my boob as I'm walking down the street! Not wise!Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Thanks for the replies. I just thought it was odd that I only have pain in the one breast and not both. I have some evening primrose in the cupboard and will dig those out and see if they make a difference. It also suprised me because I have not had sore boobs before during that time of the month and I am not exactly young (37). Our bodies are such strange and wonderful things lol. I also have some good non underwired bras so will use them instead of the underwired ones. It looks as though I will have this for the forseeable future so will take all your advice and try all the suggestions. Thank you all again!0

Yes, it's just the one for me and under-wired or not, bra style makes no difference,
Mammograms are nightmare, though! I yelled "Oh, Jesus!" at my last.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

You say Evening Primrose Oil before and during your period, I need help with the PMT and bad moods/behaviour.
Now I take Echinacea to boost my immune system and take it for a month then take a month off.
Do you take Evening Primrose Oil for the week before and during and then take 2 weeks off, then repeat each month?0 -
Evening Primrose oil - 1000mg every day throughout the month has worked wonders for the same problem and sorted out my pmt and given me lovely skin:DThank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

I found Starflower oil worked the best as it has twice the amount of Gamma Linolenic Acid as primrose oil - and apparently its that that has the benificial effect on breast pain,
I was actually prescribed these in my 30's when my breast pain was so bad I couldn't not wear a bra -having to wear sports bras to bed0 -

I take it all the time. I find it helps to regulate my mood generally.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0
