If you want to make sure you get maximum time before you are called in for the medical then don't send the form in until the last moment, when you do send it in 'forget' to fill in one of the descriptors and then leave it until the last moment to send it in again. This will buy you a few months extra time.

Thats so not true. They will take it that the descriptor you are filling in doesnt apply to you and carry on with the process as normal. Yeah you could delay sending the form in til last minute but to be honest I dont see the point. Get it in and get it over with!

All I can go on is my own experience and that of a couple of others who were on IB. It worked for me twice. I'd rather delay seeing the ex Gestapo quack for as long as possible.

i agree with hjb123 on this one the ammount of delay there is anyway is long enough to wait, get it over with.

what i find hard to understand is why ,when there seems to be such a backlog ,do the DWP seem to be sending out even more ib50 forms than they have in the past, people seem to be receiving them now when they have been left alone for up to ten years!!I have read threads on disability forums where people who thought they were exempt have received them, its all very strange.

This why as i have said on other threads you cant really trust the DWP, I posted a question on another forum about ib50 forms and one of the answers i received was fom someone who said they worked in IB,part of the answer was that the dwp main priority at the moment was to get people off IB.This was posted on youreable.com.

it is a fact also that the DWP have lost alot of jobs and have people working in departments they have no experience of perhaps this is why everything seems to be taking so long.

in reply to the posting by broker i would think if there was going to be any problem with your friend something would have been done by now,i have heard of people having their money stopped and the dwp cant wait to tell you as it is stopped as soon as they can do it!!!
:) There are two sides to every story.

  • My advice is to make a photocopy of your IB50. If the decision maker cannot sufficiently score you confidently you will have the opportunity of a medical. Your objective is to comment on your bad days. I say this because the examiner is scoring you. You need to give them reasons why you are incapable i.e how it affects your ability to work. Do not be derailed by their questioning but always turn the question around to get the reasons into their heads so hopefully the report back to the decision maker will have scored sufficiently. This is where you rely on the examiner remembering and listening to you fully. The opportunity of a medical is given so any new condition can also be picked up as if any exemption you qualify for but this should have been checked prior to you getting that far so it only applies to any new discoveries. This will be investigated to qualify you for exemption, i.e no IB50 required again. If you are not exempted then you can be called for a review at anytime. You do get a review date with your decision letter. Unless you are exempt then expect an IB50. Thats why its best to keep a copy so when a review comes up you can know what you said and not underestimate your problem. Indeed you can request a copy of the medical report even if you are successful for your own records to see how you fared and this may help you prepare for a medical on your next review.
