Cat has moved out

Cats don't move in unless they're fed and actively encouraged. We've got a little chap keeps showing up in our garden and trying to come in - he's a cutie, but the most he's getting from us is a quick ear scratch and friendly "hello puss" (yes I'm a softie for saying hello to the neighbourhood cats) if we're out in the garden because I've spotted what he's up to and I've been on the other end of a cat homeswitch before! I'm sure plenty would have cracked at his little face staring through the patio doors (he's still a kitten really so has the awww factor) because he's a pretty slick operator but I know his owners are at the end of the street and I know he's well looked after.
He is a cutie though!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
My cat turned up at my house one winters night about 5 years ago. I was moving some suitcases out into a car as a visitor was leaving and he jumped up on the wall and without any hesitation as i was going in, jumped down and went into the hall . I expected him to leave immediately but he came upstairss and I had no food for him but he jumped on my bed and started purring as i stroked him. I let him out the next morning, thinking he would go back to his owner. He was very fat with a shiny coat (well looked after) and now I know he hates going out in the winter. He just hung around all day , using his claws to find some food in a plastic rubbish bag outside. I am absolutely convinced that since then he has never ever been back to his old home. I think it was probabley full of kids as he absolutely hates being picked up even by me ! Cats are their own bosses and come and go as they please."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

Well the barrel ident on the collar didn't last long its gone already, I shall get another one and check it's tighter. Have done the photo for the note just need DH laptop to print it off.
Good news was cat was in all night, it came home and then got stuck in when DH shut the kitchen door, not realising it was back - cause it never is!
We shall see what luck the note has over the weekend.0 -
You don't think the people are just taking the collar off and ignoring it do you?0

We had 3 cats "jump ship" to an old lady who lived over the road. She actively encouraged all the cats of the area to live with her - putting a cat flap in her garden shed with beds and food in there, other various plastic boxes on their sides around her garden with bowls of food in them. She also had a cat flap in her kitchen door and on the times I visited to retrieve my moggies there were bowls of fresh chicken and fresh fish all thru the house and even on the stair treads and in the bathroom!!!!
Now you may think she was more than a bit barmy maybe she was more than a bit! Her weekly shopping consisted of mostly cat food and meat to cook for the cats.
We had many conversations with her (and a few slanging matches where she accused me of not looking after the cats!!) Her grandson lived in the same street too - and even his cat would be fed, she wasn't picky - and even tho she was asked not to allow the cat to feed there due to being allergic to certain food and having to eat a special diet. The cat would go home from her house and bring all that it had eaten back up on the lounge/hall/bedroom floor - but that did not even stop her. I had conversations with the police, council and the RSPCA and unless I could prove she was encouraging vermin with all the food left out no one would do anything.
We collected out cats many times, fed them everything we could think of that was nice, fussed them, kept them in for weeks at a time and even got one of those feliway smelly things that are supposed to calm cats but they would still go straight back to her as soon as they were let out!
We now have the moggies back living at home but only because the old lady died. If she was still alive I think we would still be having the same problems, even tho we now live a further half mile away from the old house!

No, we have the collar, just need to ask DH if he took it off. Barrel is missing, not sure if the cat scratched too much and shock it off. It actually came home on its own last night so maybe someone has got the message.
The people are very polite about it, in the beginning I used to feel guilty for the cat making a nusance of itself!0 -
How about something like one of these?

They look great thanks.0 -
Have you thought about keeping your cat in for a week or so? I know it means going back to litter trays etc, but it might help to 'remind' him where he lives. x0

Sometimes people will respond to a note they see.
I've heard of someone who did that. She put her contact details on it and half a dozen neighbours contacted her to say they'd been feeding him because he kept turning up on their doorsteps!0
