i recently started a small business as a sole trader a few weeks ago,but have had to stop work due to an ongoing health problem(back problems)that has become too much.
the job consisted of heavy ladder work and climbing on roofs etc,and unfortunately my back can not take any more.
anyway i have spent a few thousand on a van, tools and stock that i can sell and recoup most of the money so that is not a problem.
i have not yet registered as a sole trader yet as i know you have 3 months from starting to notify them and it has only been a few weeks since starting.i have done only 1 job since starting and the payment was put into my business bank account.
do i still need to notify that i have briefly been a sole trader, but have now stopped work permantly due to health?
i have left 20% of the single payment in my business account for any tax due on that job.
any advice would be great.

Yes, you need to register as SE and fill in a tax return for the job you did so you can pay tax on it. Pain for just one job but should be simple enough. You can do it all on the phone (registering) and online for your return. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
