Binoculars, which?

We have two pairs of 10x50 binoculars of different make, both are about 7half " big and are cumbersome to carry about.
We also have two identical pair of 9x21 which are only just ok. but the size/weight is right.
We would like to purchase a small pair, for convenience carrying and of magnification that would enable us to view boats/views etc as we're on the coast. It seems that if you have a magnification that is too high, the slightest movement is noted. maybe someone might offer a few pointers please.

I had the same problem,i would definitely recommend try before you buy,Jessops did a very good light weight pair of 12x 50 for around £35.
12x50 is the optimum for holding steady versus light level and magnification Divide 50 by 12 to get your exit pupil size ie 4.16
Your pair of 9x21 will give you only 2.3 nearly half the light levels.Only good in really bright light.
The zoom ones that are 20-50 x30 look good on paper, but in reality would be almost unusable at the top end of their zoom range!
Strathspey is an excellent company quality products and helpful advice as well.If you know exactly what you are after! Hope that helpsnever put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow0 -
I picked up some info on ukhotdeals which suggested that 10x42 might well be suitable so looked today, we don't have jessops here and of that magnification in a specialist shop, they were over £1000. I will look where you suggest thanks.
Now that is an interesting site and those mentioned are £75, my guess is that my mind will not be on Casualty tonight! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
