Open University courses subsidises

Options
I have read another thread on here about the Open University and it is something that I have been thinking about doing for a while.
I have been looking at the Life Science degree. At the moment I cannot work but I'm hoping that once I have seen my rheumatologist and am receiving treatment then I may be able to work again in the future.
In the mean time I have been thinking about doing the degree so hopefully I will have completed it by the time my youngest has started school and I am hopeful fit and able to work again.
What I am not sure about is the fees and grants that are available.
The course itself is obviously alot of money, is there a subsidy to help me pay for it or a grant of some sort.
I am receiving income support and I am a carer for my husband who receives DLA for a mental illness but I will have to stop my carers claim and may have to claim DLA for myself.

Can anyone advise me as this course is something that I really want to do to further my career.
Many thanks:o
I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

The main problem you have this year is time. The registration closing dates have been moved forward for most courses to the 9th September.

In addition you are suppose to apply for financial help 4 weeks before the course starts.

Anyway to see if you eligible try this calculator - http://css2.open.ac.uk/FafCalculator/eligibility.aspx?OFS=False&Country=ENI

Edited to say: if you are doing the module exploring science (S104) they have a course that starts in January 2011 which you have to register by the 15th December.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

There are a lot of courses with February start dates - most of the Science and Technology courses, for a start. Plus there are the short Openings courses, which I think still have about 4 different start dates within the year.

Go to the OU website and there will be lots of things there to help you.
