.TXT formatting in email attachment

I sent some .TXT notepad files attached to an email.
When I opened elsewhere online (opened in notepad), the formatting of the text was all messed up, line spacing & carriage returns had all disappeared, so text was all in one block as a continuous line.
I wouldn't have thought attaching & sending .TXT file in email would affect formatting, as there little or no formatting anyway.
Any idea what's happened ?

Hi
Have you tried viewing those txt files with a different program such as Wordpad?Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
What I meant was put the word wrap on the machine you have sent them to. For some reason Notepad doesn't default to word wrap and if someone is using it for the first time, it won't be on.
Edit: sorry, realised you've tried that!
Alternatively, put the text in a plain text e-mail instead. Set your e-mail program for format as plain text.0 -
Attaching files to email can affect the attachement if your email client (on either end) isn't very clever.
Normally files should be encoded (when sent) in somthing like base64, but it may be tring to be clever and reduce size by keeping it verbatum, then somthing else it cleaning the email later to reduce size, removing all whitespace is common as its not normall important.0
