I am flying into Milano Malpensa airport in a few weeks time and renting a car to get to my customer. Does anybody know where can I get a good detailed road map of northern Italy ( Lombardia region)?

I did fall upon Achilles's site over the week and found it very good indeed. Thanks to all of you for replying. The Amazon site is great if you need to buy the detailed map.0

Never mind the map! You'll first need to develop a kind of Italiano sixth sense to decipher the roadsigns to the roads you see on the map and never can be quite certain about on the ground! The roads are there alright nicely mixed up with signs to other roads which don't quite seem to be on the map but might or might not be the road you thought you needed! Just you try to travel 100km exactly to plan and I think if you do, you deserve some kind of prize! Good luck!PACH wrote:I am flying into Milano Malpensa airport in a few weeks time and renting a car to get to my customer. Edit: And I must tell you another story about driving in Italy:-) ... the road junctions can be a bit confusing too ... a lack of thick white bars across my way at an interesting traffic light in the middle of nowhere cost me dear! From the looks of the faces of other drivers, I found I had passed the imaginary stopping point whilst waiting to turn right and my confusion was witnessed by one senior and one less senior police motorcyclist coming the other way...cutting a long story short I got an on the spot 137 EUR fine but pleaded poverty (pulled the dustballs from the bottom of my pockets and waved a VISA). Senior policeman seemed annoyed and drove off leaving junior to "get out of that"! I got him to understand that I only had 70 EUR cash so together we flicked through his book of prices for "misdeeds of the road" and chose one costing 67 EUR instead. I said keep the change but he insisted on finding three euros in his pocket for me:-) I found a 100 EUR note while I was hunting for cash but luckily he either didn't see it or couldn't face another negotiation in pigeon Italiano!0 -
If you only want to get to your customer then www.theaa.com will work out your route and you can print it off. Remember to do reverse route too for coming back.
The RAC also provide this service0
